At work we have the need to have a cat5 cable in the middle of a room where a printer is.

The type of ceiling in there will allow a gland through it, so I suppose dropping the cat 5 down to the desired height, then zip tying it to some wire may work? Can you hanging type cat5 sockets?

Or is there an industry standard hanging conduit etc for hanging cat5 cable in the middle of a room?

I know there is some rule about being 10cm away from heat sources/fire hazards.

That should be ok, as it's in the centre of a room with nothing else around it :)

I was thinking something like this: http://www.clarkwire.com/RuggedRJ-45.htm

But cannot find it in the UK.

Power pole is what I use it sounds perfect for what you need but isn't cheap.

Thanks for that. We don't want anything on the floor really though, just hanging.

I found these http://www.northern-connectors.co.uk/product_hummel-m23-rj45-circular-connectors_335 which may do the job.

Pass that through the ceiling tile through either a stuffing gland and plug it into a data point above the grid.

http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/rj45-connectors/7659684/ - check the product pdf. There is a panel mount socket that mates with that plug. You could use it to fix the point into the ceiling. The socket accepts a standard rj45 patch lead too.
