yup - youre just gently flooding the engine - the short answer to all questions is no.

With the spark firing sooner in the cycle, meaning that the piston isnt fully compressed at firing??

Or do I have the wrong idea about knocking??

They dont alter timing in the slightest on the majority of cars Id imagine.  I doubt it would pink either.

The ignition map is usually a good bit different in the maps on the likes of superchips/starchips - they arent worth a ball of sh*te though - they dont make any good difference, and they arent set up for that car - theyre a best guess map on one that was used as a reference - probably a brand new or low miler.

Since that is a piggyback device Im guessing that it modifies the output to the injectors, and could also modify the ignition output - still not worth a ball of sh*te though.

On Turbod cars all they do is basically increase the pressure at which the wastegate opens, thereby lessening the life of your engine, and turbo. Bleed valves also have the same effect - you end up with a dead turbo a lot more quickly (Ive seen one wreck a turbo in a week)

Read between the lines mate.  It isnt a piggyback chip, its a f***ing resistor you wire in between the air mass flow sensor and the ECU :D

Serious

If you know the resistance then it should cost a few pence, a pound at most.

ack nooo I just saw "tuning" and "vauxhall corsa" in the same URL

suffice to say, I didnt let the page load....    its wrong I tell thee.. WRONG!!!! WROONNGGGG!!!

"If you know the resistance"... Are you implying that there is some specific resistance that somehow makes the car into a porsche-thrashing beast?

No, Im implying that they are greedy thieving b*stards. If you know  the stats of the variable resistor then you should be able to buy the bits for a quid.

Note I still havent said its going to work and refer to my second previous post above

Quote from: SeriousThe nearest thing would be pulling the choke out slightly on an older car.

You might get a slight performance gain but at the expense of a lot more fuel.

How do you double the value of a corsa?

Fill the petrol tank.

When I were a nipper... first getting into cars, I thought that when an engine was tuned it was made... more efficient, better...  it produced more power, due to being ..well, tuned..  in the musical sense of the word I guess...

but the reality is, engines are absolutely crap at what they do, and all performance gains come at an expensive of a lot more fuel. Your tuned up engine (just for arguments sake, take a Skyline) turbocharged engine will damn well guzzle the stuff like no tomorrow even in standard trim (~280bhp from its 6-cyl 2.6 - proper stuff!)

tuning isnt tuning....  its just squeezing as much air into the engine with the correct fueling (stopping it from being lean, or rich) and ignition timings (to prevent pre-detonation as much as possible) and then its down to hoping the block doesnt go crack into lots of pieces under the strain :D

If I can find it, I have pictures on another forum Im a member of with a 1000+ BHP golf engine ....in two halves  block quite cleanly snapped into two under the stress!!!
