Former Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher has died at 87 following a stroke, her spokesman has said.

RIP. She had more backbone than Cameron, Clegg and the other non-entities combined. Maybe the 20's will be better.

I've been quite close today of removing some contacts from facebook as the outflow of bile from them is just getting too much. And as though targetting a recently deceased person isn't enough they're now turning their sights on anyone who might have asked them to tune it down a little :/

Please correct me if I am wrong, but it's not like she did *everything* wrong, she was in power for 11 years, she did do some good too, and for that she deserves a little respect surely. I also believe that to an extent the PM is just a figurehead of a party, and a product of the times. If it wasn't thatcher, someone else would have filled her shoes and have had to make the same kind of decisions, am I wrong in that belief too?

Or maybe I'm just biased as a close relative died a few months ago from a stroke, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone or their families.

she modernised britain. unfortunate the uneducated lost their jobs in money losing industries. She created the free market & finance sector this country has. Who knows the state of the country today if she didnt. One thing for sure, we couldnt compete with china or india in manufacturing costs. Coal was cheaper to buy & import from Poland back in them days (most pits lost money in the 60s & 70s). Lots of people who wanted to get on in life, done well under others. Those who was happy enough to flip burgers for their whole life lost their job.

the sad fact is that the vast majority of the haters im seeing arent old enough to know what she was about.

she sorted a few things out, stiffed a few more things up, but wasn't a broadly bad leader. it was major and the labour years that followed that forgot to work on the bits she didn't fix in order to balance the economy. and then we became a nation of bankers. or not.

Serious

Had she been in power for 4 years she would have been lauded by most for sorting Britain out.

8 years and she would have still got the support of a lot of people.

Unfortunately she went on for too long with only extreme right wing conservative views that just kept getting more extreme. You can only cut so much before you end up causing more problems than you cure. She did what she had to do but didn't know when to stop, or listen. Eventually her own people decided enough was enough and kicked her out.

Thatcher wasn't evil, as some point out, merely far too human.
