Rubbish. Discuss.

PS. (And the 80s is massively underrated).
PPS. (Except for Come on Eileen which is the worst song of the 80s).

well it was written by a bunch of dirty gypsys

though yes Im getting sick of adverts for various different dance/house/bungalow//Im-a-twat-on-drugs-garage-living-room-drum & electronic-sh*te-music - seems they all have the same songs just played in a different order by some famous DJ who is worshiped because he choooses which order to play the songs - ops sorry he mixes them LOL

(no doubt someone is now going to rant about how DJs are highly skilled etc. etc..)

Clock'd 0Ne

What narks me off more than these so called DJs is the crap that passes for original by taking a 70s/80s hit and adding another 45bpm to the track to make a summer hit.

Todays musically clueless generation then think it is the best ch0000000n ever and the original artist has their rep soiled.

Walrusbonzo

IMO, most 80s music is overrated.....

But I agree with the main topic being utter nonsense.

Come On Eileen is quite good I think, its a good sing a long happy song.

maximusotter

Whats worse than Grease on Olivia Newton John?

Come on Eileen.

Im just old enough to remember that joke.

if your putting all electronic music under this category, i dont have the time to discuss... however, i presume this thread is based largely upon  the tripe you hear on the radio with leo sayer splayed over the top, and the rubbish you get in clubs which attract all those undesirables then i agree.

the main problem is electronic music is such a huge genre. HUGE. youll probably not have heard any of the stuff i listen to, but im sure as hell you wont have heard it on the radio (well maybe radio 1 on a thursday). but the likes of sasha, digweed, zabiela and all the other talent out there, are constantly advancing. gone are the days of 2 turntables and a mixer. we now see, a huge consortium of all sorts of jibber jabber. midi pads, turntables, cd players, laptops the lot. you get one man, running around the dj booth (zabiela) knowing exactly how to get the crowd going, and its going to go off big time. been in a room with 500 other clubbers and music lovers just generally having a good time, is a feeling which you cannot beat.

its not comparable in any way to anything like the World Of Wark, Kingdom etc...

drugs... drugs goes hand in hand with the deeper side of electronic music, and i guess more so now too with your local clubs aswell. as the drugs are everywhere... however, ive been ravein or whatever you wanna call it for 5 years now, never needed to take anything and always had the most amazing times.

all i can really say is, if its not your thing you dont need to be aware of it. the only place i can hear the music i want, is either in a weekly club night (Urban Gorilla) or on my cd player... im glad by this, as i dont have to listen to the tripe on the radio. and i dont have to listen to anything i dont want to.

Youre quite right.  At the end of the day were all different and have our own opinions :)

A few weeks ago I would have agreed with Sam, however that was before buying a Reggae CD (Gentleman - Confidence, someone slipped me some mp3s from it and I expected to hate it, except I didnt and paid out real dosh! (getting more than Ã,£1 out of Serious for a CD is a bloody miracle and I paid Ã,£9.99 (yes it was worth it! :) ))) and finding that there is always a silver lining in *every genere*.

Although I am still looking for the glimmer of one in rap... :gag:

Ã,
Dance/Trance/Electronic music rubbish?

In 1986/7, music critics said it was a fad that wouldnt last.

Nineteen years later....

There is some sh*te flying around, agreed - but the stuff you hear on popular compilations / TV is not representative of the depth of sheer, original talent in this genre.

I dont disagree there are some real gems and some classic tracks. But most of the good material isnt heard mainstream any more and as such Ive moved on. The 90s is over.

Id say there is far better talent in the world of hip-hop that manages to go mainstream and you can find good examples above and underground.

Anyone with a set of a decks and a mixer seems to be the next big DJ these days.

Crafting a beat and a rhyme takes a whole new skillset. But even hip-hop has gone down the same path I would say.
