I have a new lodger moving in and he has asked if he could get a TV package.

I am currently on Virgin, but i know if i ask them to upgrade me to a TiVO they will expect a minimum contract of 18 months, and i assume Sky will be the same.

Now TV came up as an idea, it looks great, but afaik you cannot use Now TV with a PVR, or can you? Also do i have any other options, my lodger has insisted he needs channels like Sky 1.

Please help!

You're nearly always financially better off changing provider, you'll get an introductory package with Sky making it great value for the first 12 months.

I'd be surprised if you were tied in for more than 12 months.

Equally, even if you're tied in for 12 or 18 months you should be able to downgrade as long as you stay with the company (not 100% on this but thats what I would expect).

Once you have the best quote for what Sky can offer (including all possible discounts - quidco/topcashback) then call Virgin and see if they'll match or come close.

Not sure about now TV im afraid.

Its not really for my benefit so i don't want to get tied up in a contract, i am only renting a room to somebody. I assume Now TV with a PVR (if possible) would be the only solution to get channels not on freeview.

Not sure you'd need PVR with NowTV as the programes are available for at least seven days after they have aired. And there are no adverts as a bonus

Nice one, thanks for the advice, i'll likely be going for Now TV then, that should keep the lodger happy

NowTV is rubbish!

Get on to the sky website & do the online chat.
My contract on Sky was up in December. I cancelled my account.
Done the online chat & opened a new account in my partners name.
50% discount. 12 month contract. Obviously an extra £10 if you want multiroom.

Dont tell him about the discount. Tell him you will go 50:50 ;o)
