Right... before I go mad.

It is an SPDT that I need to do this yes?

I need a switch I can depress halfway... to focus a camera, then fully depress to release the shutter.

So normally off... but activates one circuit half way... then the other circuit.

Any suggestions as well, ideally I was looking for an anti-vandal style switch as they look well nice mounted on a black box thing :D lol.

Mongoose

its going to be SPDT in terms of the terminals, but make sure its a 3 position switch, with one being off. IIRC (from GCSE electronics so could be wrong, that was 7 years ago now) some SPDT switches are always on one or the other with no off position.

you trying to make your own cable release for your camera? neat. Make sure you include some sort of lock so you can hold the shutter release down in bulb mode without actually having to hold the button.

yeah thing is... finding a pushbutton spdt center off is bloody difficult. Only things I can see are spdt momentary on switches and they are either rockers, or toggles.

May have to go with just two pushbuttons.

Ill be wiring in all sorts of fancy gubbins such as a latch + delay to get me continuous shooting for timelapse photography, and while my camera has no bulb mode I may wire it in anyway.

May also be wiring in a trigger for flashes :)

But yeah... making a remote for my camera, found out that its really easy after reading a pdf article about modding a casio thingy... after reading the s5000 service manual I found that I just need to solder 3 pins on a single chip on one pcb inside of it, and it isnt even that hard to get to.

It will be a push to make double throw switch, maplin should hopefully have a suitable one. Foot operated?

Cheaper single pole version

Best idea might be to go in and tell them what you need.

DPDTS are what you use for switching motor polarities and whatnot, and isolating stuff from the mains. I dont need a DPDT I need a SPDT Center Off switch :)

DPDT switch both circuits on in one move. I wish to switch one circuit... then the other.

knighty

how about ebay for a dead/cheap camera anc nick the switch off that ? :)

M3ta7h3ad

lol cause a "dead cheap camera" involves normally just contacts on a circuit board with a fancy housing for the shutter button :)

Will just use 2 switches I think :)

If you want the same result as a camera button where you push down half way to focus/set the aperature+shutter speed and fully to take the picture then I suspect my second link is the nearest you will get. Except it probably wont work.

TBH I dont think you will get exactly what you want and its probably better to use a standard switch for the first bit and a push button for the second, if you have an unlimited shutter time then mod a little clip to twist over the second button and hold it down.

Alternative- have a look around for a cheap second hand cable release and mod as required.

If all I wanted was to take shots from a tripod and stably... Id use a cable release. But I want to be able to mod my camera to take time lapse photography, to take various other funky photos and perhaps just set a 555 timer sending pulses down to the camera forcing it to take photos as fast as it possibly can for an unlimited amount of time.

My e-500 has two buttons for this.
You can program it for focus and exposure lock then the shutter release is for....well releasing the shutter. Dunno how youd do it but that sounds like a better bet for you?
