I think its crazy the world is literally switching off, shutting down and doing all sorts of damage that will take generations to recover from just because there is a nasty cold going around.

By all means but the most vulnerable in society in a bubble somewhere until the vaccine is approved but come on! let the rest of us get on with life! AND STOP CANCELLING MY SPORTS EVENTS! :P

I get that there needs to be some containment going on but a well known US doctor was on a show yesterday basically saying that as soon as you have a drop and remove the lockdowns it will just pick back up. Like he said - It is the flu and falls under the same as that. It has a longer period showing signs 14-25 days then the normal flue and it is in the air like the flu but it is just the same. Until you have a vaccine out there available then you just do as you do with the flu.
He was super pissed with the Media.

The coronavirus is not a flu virus, it kills about 40 times as many people who get infected. Which is fine if you don't have any elderly relatives or those with compromised immune systems. A vaccine could take a year or more to reach full production so not next Friday in time for the match.

Actually I don't care about sports events being cancelled, would much prefer watching Boris doing a 10Km swim chased by a horde of hungry sharks. Of course you can always watch old ones repeated on TV, then you can know who is going to win and only watch the ones where the side you support does.

It limits the transmission of the disease, or perhaps you think that a sporting event is worth more than people's lives?

The world economy will go into recession, house prices will fall, companies will go bust, people will lose their jobs, savings and pensions, that's all.

Thought i would check in, i was made redundant yesterday, i have until the end of april but i cannot work from home.

I am also diabetic, i believe my health is in good order, but i am worried a bit, both my brothers are sick with various issues and im alone most of the time as my parents and other close family are gone.

I will have to work until my contract ends, so lets hope youre all wrong and this doesnt escalate as i have enough problems now with rent / high car insurance and other bills.

Just got my feet back on the ground too  ::) :panic: :)

Really sorry to hear that. All the supermarkets are hiring now for picking, packing, driving, delivering etc because of the demand, you should see if its viable for you mate. Take care of yourself and stay safe.

Don't expect this to get better any time soon. If anything it is going to get worse for the next few months.

Government was caught trying to ignore the issue, and we might just pay a hefty cost for them trying to pretend that herd immunity is a good option. NHS is already very badly stretched and this on top could well break it.

I am on self imposed home quarantine, not because I have it, but because I might catch it.

Seems to be plenty of fake advice not to take ibuprofen if you think you are infected, and a little real circumstantial evidence, still better to take paracetamol if you need to take either and have no issues with that.

Clock'd 0Ne

Actual NHS advice is to continue to take Ibuprofen if you already are for an underlying condition/as recommended by GP, otherwise try paracetamol first and use Ibuprofen as a last resort - only because as an anti-inflammatory it could, maybe, potentially complicate the effects of coronavirus - there is no hard evidence either way though so just be cautious.

Everyone stay in touch and let us know how you are, stay fit :ptu:

My personal advice is, if you're struggling to get essentials try a local farm shop as many are offering delivery or safe collection now; you'll pay a bit more but get quality goods and support your local producer (who could struggle at a time like this) and you won't get shafted by the moronic supermarkets who did too little too late, are cancelling orders, not managing stock, not delivering essentials, etc.

Big news tonight, the government is basically going to pay everyone 80% of their wage for the foreseeable if you need it.

God know how we're going to pay for this but fair play to the government for standing by the people.

from what I've read, if your company can say you would be working but can't because or crona, they can claim 80% of your pay back from government

but that's useless for all the people who have been laid off - which I've heard is happening to a lot of people

nissan factory in Sunderland has shut down, and so have most of their local suppliers - partly because of crona here, but also because they're running out of parts (whcih come from china)

staff there aren't happy... they're on full pay... but it's treat as a loan so when they go back to work they have to pay it back :-o

That is not at all nice. Mind if Nissan virtually close it down completely forever then the employees probably won't have to pay it back.

Won't have a job either. It is bad enough for the EU countries, it could be worse for us.

I have the added problem of living with my brother, who works at the main hospital here. That could be a real issue if he catches something as I always have flu like symptoms and cannot tell if I get an infection until it is really bad.

No it's for laid off people aswell.

I work for a company that refurbishes pubs and understandably the pub company aren't giving us any more work for the time being.
I'll be laid off after the end of next week, but my boss as assured me that I'll be getting the govt 80% wages until we come back in.
