yeah the grade boundaries may be the same but that is about it

50% for discrete maths 101 vs 50% for ?sociology? 101

mmmm which is harder

The whining about Arts students is getting old and boring to be honest. Ive been on both sides of the fence so know exactly what the differences are between the arts and the sciences.

Quote from: brummie35% FFS why dont they just hand them out to anyone who wants one??  :o

As mentioned its pretty much worthless.  Its just a module pass.  The pass mark and degree classifications varies.

Iiirc, 70% + is a first, 60-70%, a 2:1 and it goes down etc.

This is based on solely third year modules or a combination of sencond and third year modules.

To be fair, something is only as difficult as one finds it.  It doesnt take a mathematical genius to do a heart transplant for example (afaik lol).

My point is just because someone struggles with something like maths or science doesnt them make them anyless intellegant which sometimes is a general assumption.  Part of being good at something, is being interested in it.  Some people can do electronics, engineering science but are poor at maths for example, along with all other sorts of combinations of strong and weak topics.  Im absolutely useless with programming, partly because it puts me to sleep at best of times.

Ive been told I should be a psycologist before after giving some friendly advice before lol.  :-)

If I wasnt interested in the course I did I wouldnt have gone further than the first year.  Im not going to mock someone for their genuine life interests, art, archaeology, modern history etc, whether it involve a worthless mickey mouse qualification or not.

Dave

Youve missed my point. Im not saying all arts students are thick - Im saying that in general they have easier courses.

redneck

so your saying fine art, graphic design, and design isnt hard.

its a different type of degree for a different type of person.

sh*tty marketing, we dont need

Cypher

I know you didnt say there were thick becuase they were doing an easier course.  But is a general assumption some people make.

Im just saying I wouldnt do a course easy or hard technically, workload, hours whatever, if I wasnt interested in it.

Im with Dave.

I love the English language and writing so I was tempted to do a degree in it (although I actually havnt). I fully expected it to be a cakewalk other than the hours put in on essays, etc.

Show me a maths based course and my bottom lip starts to wibble.

Equally there will be plenty of maths students who simply couldnt hack an English degree.

Clock'd 0Ne

I dont disagree, not everyone is geared for it - we cant all hack it as poets and authors. I do think in general that sciences put a lot more pressure on you than arts though.

Try doing the whole curriculum of core subjects and foundation subjects!

Anyway redirecting the topic to its original status, I dont get my marks back till the end of July where I have to wait upon three assignment results. Now my arguement is that if I have to resit this assignments I have till the 15th August to hand them from the end of July. I know most people would find it a doddle but I really struggle to research and write a essay up in a month let alone if I resit three assignments in three weeks. There was big up roar about it the head of year said that they could not extend the hand in date. So at this moment I am fretting whether I am having to resit three assignments which I could do with out whilst trying to look for a job.   Hmmph

Any way Dave back to ya arguement Ive had my little moan now lol

Beaker

its not arts courses that are the real flake out, its the massive number of pathetic humanities subjects and the psuedo-technical ones.  Im thinking things like "American Studies", "Popular Entertainment Sciences", "Media and Sonic arts" and a few others, but you get the picture.  Complete sh*t, and the employers have started to catch on as well.  Mate of mine did PES, It is actually a film course for the truely dumb as a post and since leaving uni last year (we graduated at the same time) ive been working, hes also working, at Spar as a "Merchandiser" and taking home about 75% of the wage I do(and im on sh*te pay).  Ive respect for serious art students, they do something I never could, however ive no respect for the people who get a degree that qualifies them for nothing.  incedentally, i got a 2:2 (59 F***ing percent  ) and i worked my arse off for the BSc Business Information Technology, he got a 1st in his degree and no bugger will employ him.

its subjective.

You could have Einstein sit a sociology degree and struggle.

You could have Socrates sit a physics degree and struggle.

At the end of the day its what your good at that counts, I know people who are bloody amazing at mathematics but are sh*te at history, english literature, and philosophy. I know the opposite of that too. You play to your strengths.
