QuoteHaving spent the past decade pursuing a transport policy of four wheels rich, two wheels poor, the Chinese government has suddenly rediscovered the environmental and health benefits of the bicycle.

The construction ministry announced that any bike lanes that have been narrowed or destroyed to make way for cars in recent years must be returned to their original glory. This followed orders on Tuesday that all civil servants should cycle to work or take public transport to reduce the smog that chokes most streets.

Good news for everyone then :)

Except petrol companies ;)

Shame we wont do the same over here. The bike lanes near me are lame they go for around 100m max and then just disapear. To make things even better everyone treats the bike lane like a carpark.

The City of Manchester are making good steps with cycle lanes... they arent world class, but they are getting there...

Commuting via car is a joke; some 18st yuppy in a BMW X3, effectively doing a few miles an hour down a congested street - burning precious fuel and polluting the atmosphere... and theres only him in the damned thing... my mate does it - commutes into Manchester via car and he lives 8 miles away from work!

Biking to work rocks - takes me half the time, its great fun and it wakes me in the mornings, at least; AND it gets me bloody fit too!

Cycling in my nearest, city Linkoping is great can many times be faster than by car.

Going past the town moor in newcastle there was about 20 cars parked over the cycle lane and onto the pavement making its use impossible. Should be regarded as double yellow lines and anyone parking there ticketed TBH.

I have a stupid cycle lane on my commute to work. Tiz a split pavement, only ALLL the sodding road signs you can think of litter this 200mtr or so long piece of cycle path. Its almost impossible to ride down it without smacking into something.
