Im always tempted, as parts for such cars are often insanely cheap--were talking $15 waterpumps and $35 alternators, but I just dont get along with SAE sockets.

Slap a solid state ignition into one, and tune it properly, and itll get reasonable fuel economy.

whats reasonable fuel economy though? 6-7 mpg??

Tuned you can squeeze 20/25mpg out of them. Not bad at all.

well I suppose not, for the engine size (I assume its over 3/4 litres)

I reset my average MPG on the computer thingy when I bought my Yaris, not reset it since then - currently sitting at 38.3

Im using American gallons which are smaller.

The engine is 3L+.

slant 6 cabs, quite good but 65-67 Chevelle Malibus we used were more fun to drive.

I think American cars from 45-55 and 59-65 are pretty damn good looking. I dont like most late 50s as they get too chunky, and late 60s through about 2000 is fairly lame.

Id drive a late 40s Chrysler any day. :wub:

What is it with this blind dislike of anything American. There have been more than plenty hideous British automobiles and their reliability, especially Jaguar, is nothing to be proud of.

I used to commute to school almost every day in a friends 47 Chrysler. Very reliable. A seatbelt retrofit made it safe enough for my tastes.

Dont comment on things you dont know jack sh*t about.

Whats funny about a lot of those old muscle cars is that a new Honda Accord is often faster on the 1/4 mile.

Indeed though, the Malibus handled better than the Valiant/Swinger. The Valiants suspension could only be called "ponderous". The steering feels drunken. Still, I wish my 68 had not lemond up on me*.

*I owned it for a day before the transmission blew. Totally freakish, and the seller was so honest that when I asked him about it, he demanded to give me my money back.

i love the whole "aero" shape of american styling from the 1940s till about 1955 definatly one of the most important design movements of the 20th century.


i still love it today. it has quirks

Its not that at all. I dislike "classic" cars in general. But yank tanks more than most, they are just too big and fugly.
