2pm: I go down to the kwik-fit and ask for some new front pads.

2:20pm: They try getting my car on the little lift thing, after doing some car-dancing in the carpark.

2:25pm: They give up and tell me theyll get it on the big lift thing as soon as its free.

2:40pm: They get it on the big ramp.

2:50pm: They ask where the locking wheel nut thing is.

2:55pm: I go home and come back with it. My bad. I get coffee.

3:15pm: They say I need new discs too. Ã,£120. Ouch, you are taking the micky but whatever, I need em done today.

3:25pm: They have to order the parts in, theyll take about an hour to get there. I go off for some food. The guy tells me hes never done mini brakes before, uh-oh, but its a piece of cake.

3:40pm: I get a phonecall, theres a problem with my mini. They cant get the hub nuts off. I tell em how to do it, but I have to "go to a garage with more specialist tools."

4pm: They get the 2nd wheel back on and the car off the ramp.

4:05pm: Im back home wondering how badly theyve fked the hub nuts.

Wont have time to look til Saturday, but Ive got the horrible feeling that theyve rounded one off :(
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

brake disks Ã,£120?  I bet they said "Fitting is Free" as well didnt they?

THey tried that with me once, also they told me I had my shockers on upside down, and my Drums where worn.  All i was in for was a new tyre and tracking on a sunday morning.

Kwik-S*it, thats about all they are worth. Pikey chavscum run, the lot of them.

/me hugs locally mediocre pricing yet trustworthy garage.

Quick fit arent a single company but rent out the name to others, because of this you either get a goodun, average or a ripoff joint.

Useful to check yourself *before* you go if at all possible which often means its better to DIY.

Usually they are cheap enough for tyres and exhausts though

120 for just one axle?

On a common car at a local garage round here, that would get you 4 corners and premium bits.

Before it sounds like Im rubbing it in--Ive been sold $500 worth of suspension bits when I needed ball joints, and instead of the struts being installed, then just replaced the nuts under the hood to give the appearance of newness. :seething: Most mechanics suck.

Pete

Kwik-stitch are notorious for ridiculous prices, but they can normally do stuff right away whereas most garages you have to phone and book a time & then leave your car there for a couple days.

Ã,£120 for both sides, or Ã,£60 each, compared to Ã,£12.50+half hour labour for each side its shocking.

Find a good mechanic lock him in your shed and break his legs so he cant escape.

I have a great guy now, from the former Czechoslovakia, and used to work for VW. Crazy honest. I asked him once why he didnt charge me installation for a $12 piece of trim, and he popped it off and on, shrugged, and said, "why the hell should I charge you for that?" Good man.

Ã,£42!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! discs for me 944 turbo were Ã,£40 and i thought that was ludicrous - is there anywhere else sells them?

You can get thicker than a quick fit fitter: theyre the guys to  it up.

Cypher

Knowing quickfit there was probably f all wrong with your brakes.  Theres nothing wrong with the people that work at Kwik-Fit it is the managers that are the greedy b******s.

They want as much as possible done to every car, if its a puncure they weill get a tyre out of you, then 4.

They get bonuses for meeting targets, or for signing people up to their "store card" as it were.  The harder the monkeys work the more money the manager makes.  A lot of which is affected by his/her annual bonuses.

I got better service & prices from a local competitor garage.
