should I buy or should I not!

If I buy there will be trouble... if I dont there will be double! :)

I believe c/w = comes with so pedals that come with the cleats, just need to buy the shoes then :D lol.

Going to do the bearing shindiggery this weekend (saturday) may just get one out measure it.. then put it back in. Will see if my dad can grab me some grease and Ill just repack the bearings I have at the moment until I can order new ones from nashbar.

So should I get the pedals... whatcha reckon. Also pedals are standard sized yeah? they will fit my bike aye??

maximusotter

Yeah, theyll fit anything short of a kiddie, old French, or bmx bike.

If you dont get them, wiggle still has the just-as-decent Wellgo 801s for 27ish. Avoid the cheaper wellgos as theyre not fully spd compatible.

Also check out theWellgo D2 Smoothie for 30 at wiggle, they allow for regular shoes and spd shoes.

Just had another thought.

Id end up paying Ã,£21 for those pedals + cleats.

Then Id need to pay anything upwards of Ã,£35 for some cycling shoes to use with those cleats and pedals.

Just looked on wiggle: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?W=0&Manufacturer=&UberCatName=&Cat=bargain&CategoryName=Shoes - Cycle Touring&ProdID=5360019496&UberCat=0

For Ã,£60 I can buy the entire lot, brand spanking new, and the shoes are nice :)

Hmmmmm really should wait I think until I can look at my balance at a cash machine. Think wiggle set is the way to go :)

The 801s are solid, so no worries there, the clincher is the fit of the shoe.  If their return policy is good, then go for it. Otherwise, you can often find casual shoes of last years model and whatnot equally cheap on closeout.

EDIT and tidbit: only shortcoming of the 801 is that the inboard bushing is somtimes underlubed, so if they feel a bit tight, and they should be silky, pop the dust cap, disassemble with a thin 9mm socket, and squidge some grease on the bushing. Takes all of five minutes.

nice one well if I decided that after thinking about it I can afford to stump up the Ã,£60 then I think the 801s are for me :D

Dah... gadgetry!!! I loves it! :)

If I were you Id definately go for half and halfs, like the wellgos or shimano M324s.  I have double sided SPDs on my Ribble but the M324s certainly come in handy if Im just popping to the postbox on my ss.

As max says, shop around for last years shoes.  Go into your LBS and find which size shimano/specialized/whatever shoes fit you, then do some googling.  I got some Ã,£70 shimmys for Ã,£40 because theyd just been superseeded by an uglier version :D

*derisory snort* ask anyone who knows anything about cycling ;) and theyll tell you that the SIDI dominator is the shoe to own...

FACT. END OF.

If you disagree, you are GAY, YES I SAID GAY and you probably own a Raleigh Chopper, just so you can go down town and tell your GAY mates youve ridden a CHOPPER...

Actually, you may just not like them, in that case, you are NOT GAY...

BYE

ME.

EDIT: Just do not buy Nike shoes - wretched evil, sh*tty plastic american tat... not even made in the US, they killed my feet. :(

Mine look a helluva lot less like I use them to accessorize when I visit "specialist clubs" :D

Sidi make shoes with a wicked reputation, but visually most of them make me want to vomit.  And thats even before Ive looked at the price label

Serious riders dont worry about aesthetics,  :disappointed: ;) theyre awesome shoes, as ive said, Nike do some very poncey/nike looking shoes, but they kill my feet... and i think the sidis look more understated and workman like than other examples on the market...

M3ta7h3ad

rofl.. they both look like something that belongs in a scifi movie.

now this is more like it :P

are you a geography teacher?... youll be wearing jackets with leather elbow patches next :)... as ive said, functionality > form and sidis piss over anything for comfort... i heard about how good the sidis were by reading around on cycle messenger websites/forums and they got nothing but praise, and these guys know what theyre talking about...

i see your logic, "they look ok, so i can wear them off the bike i.e. when riding to uni", but i couldnt walk around in SPDs shoes, so the fact that they look good off the bike is an irrelevance, as i cant wear them off the bike... and if you could honestly tell me those shoes would last 6 months hard riding in the city or off road, id say youre having a laugh.

maximusotter

Youre off your rocker, Dan. Those are incredible Pearl Izumi trekking shoes, likely the best quality you can get for casual use. Not only would they last six months, youd probably get several years out of them. Stylings a personal matter.

I also think Sidis and most Diaddoras are butt ugly. I havent liked a roadie model of the latter since the early 90s. There is a thing called overdesign, and it makes me want to vomit.

Gimme plain lace up or two strap fastening, and plain black calfskin uppers, thankuverymuch, not something that looks like it was designed by the guy down the street who put ill fitting ground effects and a demonic rear spoiler on his primer grey 91 Civic.
