Im bored and want Linux on one of my remaining machines, so i was taking a look around and considering Ubuntu.  Ive already got the ISO so i figured burn to disk and install, quick and easy.  WRONG!  Ubuntu doesnt like something about my machine, i downloaded the ISO again from another location. and it still fails on install.

So i figured i would either slap Gnoppix onto the HDD as i keep copies of that handy for disk rescue reasons.  However im considering the alternatives and find SuSe do an internet install.  Its in progress atm, but its looking good.   You initially download a 35Mb ISO and boot from that.  After entering the relevant details it boots into Yast and lets you go from there.  Im about halfway through the download intstall atm and it appears to be working great.  Was going to put RedHat back on there but ive been informed its still a bitch to ATi Graphics cards.

Good luck on installing. Have a read of these while youre waiting. :)

yup, 10.1.  Looks good, im fairly cool with linux, though a little out of practice due to too much time on Winows machines.

my first linux install was via suse ftp :D IIRC 7.1 or somat.

Then bought mandrake box set 7.2, still have it here (nostalga perposes)

ive always avoided them over the net.  Used local servers before so everythign had the same image on, but never installed over HTTP.  TBH this would be a _very_ cool way for someone to release an OS if they wanted instant market value and had a known name *cough*Google*cough*.

initially black, then it changed to a fuzzy picture, then scrolled lot of different colours.  After about 10 minutes of this screen went black and that was all she wrote.

These days i cant be arsed.  I tried the safe boot trick and it did the same thing.  Might be the fact my card has the "wrong" BIOS flashed into it. :)

Beaker

Flawless, that is actually the simplest install ive ever done :)

have done previously, i need something for the lappy anyway, and IIRC FreeBSD works better than linux on laptops.

These dyas i avoide booting more than 3 osen from any PC.  Ive got 2k Advanced Server on the desktop alongside Suse, and XP/2kPro on the laptop.

First and last net install I used was for Debian. Pure... Debian.

First time around I installed the "server" version and wondered why the hell X wouldnt start :D lol.

Then... second time around I just installed everything and it took 2 days to download the entire crapload of stuff over the net. :D

Too true - FreeBSD installed without a hitch (And all hardware working first go) on my work laptop.
