How close can you take a shot (I love close-up detail)

If everyone takes a snap of a penny as close as they can we can see who has the biggest penis^h^h^h^h^h macro ;)

I gues posting a 640x480 to give a general idea with a link to the full resolution version would be easiest?

Nikon 4500
It's all fun and games until a 200' robot dinosaur shows up and trashes Neo-Tokyo... Again.

Nikon 8400, 50mm from end of lens. I can get closer but you get better quality at the mid-point of the lens zoom. Big image cropped to about 50% of original frame. 2003 penny, still been in the wars!

Binary Shadow

this was rather embarrasingly the best i could get from my camera:

Cannon Ixus i

Er... sorry its a Ã,£ not a p but meh... same size almost :D

S5000.

Apologies for the depth of field shot, but its an old photo I took which was experimenting with stuffs :)

Mongoose

well, unfortunatly I dont really have a proper macro lens in my arsenal at the moment. With what equipment I do have, and in the limited light of 10 to 11 at night, this is the best I can do.

Might try again tomorrow in natural light since then Ill be able to stop down a bit and maybe improve the resolution some.

Pentax *ist DL2 with a reversed SMC FA 35-80 zoom set at 35mm and closest focus plus RMC Tokina 2x converter. Wide open at F8, 2seconds and 200ISO.

SteveF

holy crap mongoose thats impressive - especially considering the lighting constraints.

Ceathreamhnan

Thats not macro though is it, reversing the lens ;) Cheat!

M3ta7h3ad

lol @ reverse lens + closeup filter.

Cheating barsteward! :P

Mongoose

its not cheating, its using the full capabilitys of my interchangable lens DSLR :P thats how I take all my macro photos. BTW no close up filter was used, just a standard teleconverter and a zoom lens mounted backwards with an official Pentax Macro Reversing Ring. All perfectly kosher macro equipment if like me you cant afford a proper macro lens.

If Id wanted to cheat, Id have done this (lol):

the above is a rather cheaky tight crop of the bellow, todays re shoot with a 28mm prime reversed and stopped down to F8 (actually F16 with the converter) in natural light

Serious

nothing wrong with doing it any way you can providing you put up how you did it IMO ;)

/gets out microscope and F-converter...
