Hi, simple question, looking to get this for my bros kite, basically cross bar

His kite currently has the large bars each side and is quite large, talking power kit of course.

Just want to look myself but wondering what kit buying sites you kite people use for me to look at and know they come recomended.

I can recommend the flexifoil bar.  Nice bit of kit and works extreemely well with the harness.  Im presuming his kite is flexifoil, though I dont know if it will make much of a problem.  I was thinking of line safety/stregnth.  It is important though you get the right equipment for the right kite.

Not to sure where you can by it online, though google throws up plenty of results.  Mate bought it from Highwaymen  in Hinckey.

Bishop Games in the Coventry acrcade is another good shop for kites and gear, though they didnt have the bar last time we were in there.  Only authorised dealer in Coventry strangely.

No Idea, never touched one.  I cant judge something like that by a picture.  But I cant say Im reassued by the cheapness of it or the design.

Quote from: niIve never used a bar, I use quad-line handles (and kite-killers on anything over 2m). Can you still get independent use of the brakes when using a bar or is it just for a two-line kite?

Erm, brakes, yes and no.  Allow me to explain further....

Its a weird experiance using the bar the first time, Ive used it on a Blade 8.5 iirc.  What it allows you is a lot more control.  But no direct control of the brakes is involved with control bars.

The brake lines are attached to either your wrist or/and on the harness.    All the bars work differently, but they all have brakes in one form or another as a safety device, not a method of control.  Even the 2 line bars have this by simply strapping 1 line to your wrist so the kite comes down safetly.

You can get bars for 2 and 4 line.  For the 4 line, my mate uses this iirc...

The brake lines go through the centre of the bar are attached to the harness chicken loop.  The bar moves freely along that black strap despite the look of the picture.  Even if the chicken hoop comes off, which is a case of sliding it onto the harness hook, the wrist strap line is also connected to the brakes.  If you want to, you can fly one handed and minipulate the brakes with the safety strap.

I think they are more commonly used for surfing and getting some monster jumps with the harness & bar.

Id probably stick with the handles for the buggy/board anyway.  Im not so sure it is suitable for it.   Id reckon it would be a bit of cursing involved trying to get onto the board at the same time as strapping your harness onto the hook of the bar.  Its enough trouble with the handles.

I consider myself an amateur by any standard. Do it occasionaly these days.  Still havent gotten the hang of the being dragged thing.  I dont like it when the kite is in control.  If your being dragged, apparantly the best thing to do is kneel down and dig your feet in.  I still prefer to let go.  :-)

The beach is fantastic for kiting.  :ptu:

/Edit, Ive been corrected, Im an intemediate, Ive been told off. :-)
