Howdy folks, nice to see the forums backup and running.

A quick question. Im putting in a SB 2003 server for pops next week. One thing in stuck on is the choice of antivirus and pref antispam Symantec seem to be the first choice but im all ears. Its only for a 5 client install so nothing major.

Advice please?

If its business critical then Sophos or Nod tbh, ive used them both and they appear to work flawlessly.

NOD32 Id recommend here, they do special network maintainable products too for businesses so Id use them, brilliant for the home computer too.

No idea with regards to anti-spam.

Hmmm nod appears to be the most cost effective but it jumps up if you also have the ms exchange server addon by 250 quid which i think is excessive

seriously, take a look at Sophos.  i;ve used it in exchange environments.  It isnt cheap but its rather good.

If its Exchange antivirus/spam youre after, get Sybari Antigen and Antispam.

So good, Microsoft bought the company.

Client/server AV, we use the Enterprise line of Mcafee products, those are excellent.

That being one of the problems. ive got about 300 quid tops to provide an antivirus/antispam solution. That sort of limits things a bit

For an exchange server get trend scanmail for exchange. Its slightly more expensive than the others but its the only software that I trust my exchange cluster to.

I have trend IMSS and Clearswift MIMESweeper clusters in the mail chain as well, as an exchange server out on its own with just one AV product just isnt enough.

Trend also do a good range of non Exchange products, and are totally multi platform.

Mcafee Virusscan and e-policy orchestrator are indeed good, but the cost is ludicrous. Were currently paying Ã,£90,000 a year for our desktops. Im looking at moving to a trend desktop product.

AVG is good for this sort of thing, It has a thing called AVG Admin which allows you to remotely control and deploy the AV onto other systems with the click of a button.

I trialled the AVG enterprise solution recently and in my opinion, its just not there yet - it just didnt give me the confidence that McAfee E-Policy orchestrator does - it just seemed a whole lot less professional, and I could never trust that all the clients were updated.

I suppose they are newish to the game though, so Ill give them that

oooh thats cheep. is that per seat? or total?

The thing is i thourght the exchange antivirus/antispam would have covered the server and not just the mail boxes? Or is it per external mail box?
