I have 2 cousins who are currently students and theyve always been unsuccessful in finding part time work. They just want simple work such as stacking shelves or even better would be some data entry work. One of them have applied to Tescos before filling in some tedious online form. However I know people who have just sent their CVs to companies, is this the quickest and best method. Maybe attach a letter saying why you want to work there and what role youre looking for.

er... they are students.

Macdonalds, Bars and Pubs and Clubs, Burger King, Tescos, Asdas, Spar.

I havent been out of employment since I was er.. like 12 (paperboy), for those who arent fussy who they work for, theres sh*teloads of jobs out there.

CVs to companies when your just looking for a part time job is the lazy method. WALK INTO A SHOP... ASK. At best theyll hire you right there and then, at worst, theyll say no, more likely theyll give you an application form or ask you to send in your CV for a job thats available there.

^^^as above - walk in and ask

of if you want to get through a load of people then simply phone up - walking in & asking works well for bar work/casual work - got a job in my local pub when I was 17 simply be walking in and asking the manage if he was currently recruiting.

phoning up companies directly works for both the temp/part time casual jobs & also careers.

For some reason recruitment companies didnt like my CV & tried to palm me off with jobs I didnt want - phoning companies directly & speaking to someone high up worked wonders for getting interviews - they already know your name, know a bit about you & hopefully like you before youv even sent in your CV - hopefully meaning they will want to meet you & will pay more attention to your CV.

I resigned from a pretty good job not too long ago for ethical reasons & I managed to line up a quite a few interviews simply by phoning round - had my computer on & my CV ready to send & just e-mailed it to whoever I was talking to while talking to them - tis great as youve practically bagged yourself a telephone interview already if you keep them chatting & get them to like you.

anyway thats my tip & I reckon it should work for a lot of different jobs

sending a CV in the post is doing what everyone else is doing - there is no edge over the competition in doing that

basically it was a junior stockbroker position at a firm that was more interested in earning commissions than actually giving sound investment advice

I dont think the recruiter understood why I resigned as she immediately tried to get me to go to interviews at rival firms that do exactly the same thing.

They could temp agencies.
Thats what I did during my holidays when I was a student.
Sometimes rubbish work but better than nowt.
When I was doing it i was told the agencies like taking on students as they tend to work better than the rest as they know it only temporary

plus chances are, hireing a temp student your getting somone smarter than the normal monkeys whod do the job but just have to pay them the same :)
