Ive been quoted Ã,£150 all in to fit a new starter motor to my decrepit 94 1.2 Clio.

Can anyone advise me on somewhere cheap to get a replacement (preferably online) and better yet does anyone fancy coming down to fit it for me?

Meal + beer + pleasure of my awesome company can be yours for one day

I thought about that, but how can I guarantee one found at the scrappy will work?

Maldonado

take a battery and some jump leads to test fire it?

Ask Alan ;)

Im sure me and him would come down and do it :)

But yeah scrappys are like the mechanics heaven. Well if they where not caked in fluids of god knows what...

People dont scrap cars because the starter pussed out, but because they whack into things. Look for major body damage and lower miles. Chance is 99 in a 100 that itll work.

Fitting a starter should only be a couple bolts and wires, grab a haynes from the library.

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Binary Shadow

ahh thats sometimes a couple if bolts and wires you have no hope of getting to lol

altho on a small engine you should be ok, mine.. well id be taking the inlet manifold off just to see it

Is that because youve crashed it so many times youve actually managed to fold the engine block in half?? :P

Binary Shadow

har har :P no this one remains un crashed (which is unusual)

If I go down the scrappies for one Im going to need to know how to get it off first - with that being the case Id be able to fit it myself - so Ill cross that off for now. Can anyone recommend a cheap part supplier I could order one from? Cheapest Ive found so far is around Ã,£65 ex VAT.

redneck

better than the Ã,£150 you were going to pay.

just pay it and bribe someone to fit it for you, preferably using your breasts as payment.

A decent scrappy will normally guarantee that a part will work. And some take the parts off for you - though expect to pay slightly more.

Get it reconditioned - usually cheaper. Starter for the Porsche was Ã,£300 + VAT new, 200 second hand, 40 to recon.
