Didnt know where to stick this......

Im thinking of moving from Central Point as im paying Ã,£27/month for 1meg, and although theyve been ok, I can get it cheaper! So might as well.........

Are they a PITA to migrate from or are they ok about it?!

Cheers

Deaths Head

Ive no idea but one thing I would check is if they are an IP or Data Stream company.  This will limit your choices on who you can move to and also knowing will prevent any wasted migration attemps where its rejected due to the ISP you are moving to not using the same system.  If they are different, the only way to migrate is to have your ADSL ceased and then provisioned by the new company.  This can mean you are withouth broadband for up to 2 weeks.

IP stream, they are useless to escape from. One of my customers had no ADSL for 2 months while their cockups got sorted.  He ended up with Telewest and they just put 8mb down his street a few wweeks back.   :x

Oh yeah, didnt think about that, cheers mate!

Ive been away for 4 weeks, so aint been using the net at home obviously, so should have do it then!!!

It wont be hard for him to leave as long as he chooses an IPStream ISP and they give him a MAC code.  You can tell if its an IP stream if the MAC code begins BBIP, BBDP for Datastream.  There is a third but I cant remember it for the life of me, I have only encountered it once.  Make sure they give you the full 16 or so characters.  Some ISPs deliberately dont give the full MAC code.

Im with centralpoint/fast24.

I am on Datastream. You can migrate between the two versions now apparantly datastream migration codes begin with the characters BBDS.

However Ive been waiting about a year for my migration code from fast24, they dont answer calls, they have stopped responding to emails. And to be honest im tempted to get ofcom in and get them to kick fast24  up the ass.

Connection is fine, just its expensive for 512k (19.99) they wont give me anything higher, and im fed up. I need to cancel come the summer anyway as im moving out.

If you have success can you post all the info here mate as im trying but getting nowhere.

complain to ofcom.  They invariably sort it within a week.

chrisdicko

Yeah, no worries mate!

Ill drop them an email now and see what they say.

M3ta7h3ad

Any news on this mate :)

Ive been 3 weeks now of sending emails. Not a single response.

Ive complained to ofcom but they dont take up individual cases.

Ive been told by ofcom to ring and cancel. HOW THE HELL CAN I CANCEL WHEN THEY ARENT ANSWERING PHONE CALLS, WONT REPLY TO EMAILS, NOR RETURN CALLS WHEN I LEAVE A MESSAGE FOR THEM.

M3ta7h3ad

Ahhhh what cocks.

Just got through. Paid them the money I owed, plus changed my billing date to the 1st.

Asked about mac codes, apparantly they have 2 providers. One is giving out mac codes. One isnt.

Im on the one that isnt.

Need to cancel with them pronto, apparantly they clear the line in 5 working days. I swear if I cancel and there is a tag on my line 2 weeks later Ill kick the living daylights out of them Ill go up to their registered offices and go postal.

Deaths Head

It can take up to 10 working days for the marker to clear from the line.  Sometimes.  The line will be clear but when checking on BTs systems it can still show that ADSL is still there. And there is nothing you can do but wait :(

chrisdicko

Sorry for not replying!

I emailed them for my MAC code and did get a fast reply...but it was this:

QuoteHi,

Unfortunitly your supplied by a telco that wont release mac codes at
present the only thing we can offer is a to have the tag removed then
you can place an order with a new provider

Fast 24

But, the thing is, a while ago I did get a MAC code from them! but deleted it by mistake....which I think is weird that they cant all of a sudden give me it!
