BMW.. oh n0es lol but you know id like to say yes iv owned one lol so i want a cheap one when i get a job sorted as the calibra needs some work and every day driving will kill it and possibly me.

been looking at 320s E36 shape, 6 pot engine, can get them sub Ã,£1k but the mileage is... high lol 160k miles.. iv not even had a vauxhall that high.

I know theres at least 1 owner on here, so can anyone tell me what they are like? things to look out for? and just how high a mileage can you get out of them?

Cheers

P.S. I want a black one 4 door lol

PPS: Do they have traction control? will be looking for a manual 5 speed box.

Ive got a 325td (2.5 straight six turbo diesel)

1995, 5 doors, 5 speed manual, all the standard elecy bits, windows, remote locking, mirrors etc...

really like mine, nice and smooth, pretty quick but not really that fast (10yr old diesel engine)

would have liked air con, and would have only been a few quid more but I needed a car in a hurry, bought an auto trader, went to see the one closest to me and bought it right away :)

driving it you get the feeling itll just keep going forever no matter what.... which tbh is what I look for in a car....
plus youll come off better than most when some retard rams into you (top of my priority list tbh)

if you lived closer you could take mine for a spin :)

Binary Shadow

hehe cheers.

i do like a car that feels solid and like its going to go on forever.. but theres feeling it and doing it lol

a sub Ã,£1k BMW is going to be less than mint i fear but its not worth me spending any more on one unless i fall in love with them (not likely)

Ive shifted quite a few bmws through in the past couple of years, and one nagging point has always been rusting round the boot lid, and at points on the front grille - no idea why.

Out of 10, 6 have exhibited this pattern rust - the latest was that 530d (2002) that i posted a while back.

Interiors are hard wearing but very sparse compared to what youre used to, unless an option pack has been specified. The poverty spec editions are not a nice place to be compared to the likes of a medium spec mondeo etc - but as I say, they are hard wearing. Room in the back is shocking.

Many, many of them will have been thrashed - the performance of the 328i models is gutsy, but disappointed - it didnt feel like nearly 3 litres of 6 cylinder lump. The few autos that I have shifted through have been good - the last was a 325 auto - went ok but was horrendous on fuel.

Handling is good, but (IMO) body roll on the non sporty models is pretty bad - but I am used to almost zero.

Parts arent too bad(for here at least), because everyone who lives in NI seems to either drive a BMW, an Impreza, or an Evo.

mine was only Ã,£2700 2 years ago, so probably not worth much now the way prices drop :(

still think its a hell of a lot of car for the money :)

after 140k miles mines still going strong, fair enough mines a diesel, but the body etc.. it still all good, handling is spot on (tho mine does have the sports suspension) everything works perfectly, breaks etc.. all good... non of the common bumps and rattles associated with high mileage cars :)

tho I guess I would sing its praises... thats why I bought one :)

hmm just been reading about the M52 (6 cyl petrol) ââ,¬Å"Nikasil issueââ,¬Â

Scary stuff

Had no idea they sold diesel ones. None get imported. No oil burning Mercs either. Only TDI car we get is VWs. Id love to have an inline 6 diesel. :D :D

Binary Shadow

ahh u yanks with your gasoline lol we have had oil burners over here since the dawn of time and they used to be rubbish, not so now, except the VW ones blughh (well im not a fan anyway)

had never heard of that, had to google it....

but if your buying one with 80k+ on the clock Im sure its going to be fine :)

soopahfly

I can beat that.

Im looking at getting rid of the Asstra, and getting a Mk1 Golf Caddy. :D

Binary Shadow

Knighty, its more likely to be 180k tbh

knighty

^^ 80k 180k its all good :)

get something cheap enough so the money is no real concern to you, then what does it matter if something happens to it ? someone runs into you, scratches it, you pose provocatively on the bonnet with another guy and maybe it dents in but pops out again... what does it matter ?

thats what I always aim for anyway, nice enough to use, cheap enough to not care about it :)

Binary Shadow

indeed thatll be the plan lol might even pose on it.. but i doubt it, i need to find a bird to do that

Mark

Id be concerned for a 2l engine with 180k miles on it tbqpfh

Id imagine about 3psi on each cylinder

Something along the lines of a sparrow would do nicely.
