Forgetting the cost of not changing the timing belt  , what has this cost you in the past?

Ive been quoted Ã,£475 by Renault...

noob

ERU

I used to pay about Ã,£100 for my Ford Mondeo. Thats said a friend did it for me too.

Beaker

Ã,£100 ish.  Mine is due soon in 500 miles.  Waiting until AFTER the MOT at the end of the month however.

Binary Shadow

Ã,£65 parts here (belt rollers tensioners) with DIY labour

find a renault specialist, there are plenty of Pug/Citroen/Renault specialists around, normally run by ex-dealer mechanics.

DEViANCE

Ã,£270 from rover, that is on a 1.4 k-series with water pump and tensioner included.

Thanks for that, Ill look into it. :)

Sam

how often should a timing belt be replaced? My car has done 50K.

Binary Shadow

depends on the car and service interval, most vauxhalls are 40 or 60k if thats any indication

Mark

Porsches - Ã,£8
Most citroens - Ã,£6-14

Sam - what sort of car & year? Intervals are also dictated by driving style.

Really makes me realise how lucky I am that we have a garage - people get royally shafted for any work!! I mean. Ã,£475 for a Ã,£15 belt and 2 hours work at best - thats ludicrous!!

why after the mot ?

when they need to warm the car up to test emmisions theyll rev it to hell.... which, if you drive nice will be putting more strain on the bealt then usual :O

...unless youve got a sh*tter you might scrap if it fails ?

if it fails on something that isnt worth fixing i don;t want to wast Ã,£100 i could put towards a replacement car.  Will prolly pass TBH.  just need to do the CV boots, replace a couple of bulbs and find the hole in the exhaust ( i know its there but i cant find the bloody thing).  PLus i don;t drive nice.  I _think_ the belt was changed 20k ago, but im not sure and without pulling the engine to bits i cant check.  However if it wasnt then its due in 500 miles.  belt itself is Ã,£17, but it looks like itll be a pain in the arse to change.

cool.

I normally get a local garage to do them for me because there a pita sometimes... so bealt cost + Ã,£50 :)
