Have had a Medion notebook for nearly three years and the one I have is pretty good. Unfortunately they dont supply anything like it any more in the UK

They look pretty good but her list of requirements were:

* gotta be a new one
* has to have a nice keyboard
* less than Ã,£400

In that case the acer will be more than adequate.

When I bought mine I was wowed by the size of screen (15"), the resolution (1400*1050), speed of processor (3ghz) and the keyboard, none of which have disappointed me. The weight was a killer though and still is, I would only use the thing as a DTR.

Some of the stores have a Turion in there as well, couple of friends have them and they are sh*t hot.  if you are ordering in-store then check.  Other than that its perfect for a general day-to-day user who isnt gaming.

I have the slightly lower spec version of that one (in the same chassis, same CPU, smaller HD, less RAM). It a good laptop, does its job well.

On the down side battery life isnt great because of the big screen and the speakers leave a lot to be desired, very quiet indeed.

Its a good budget laptop though.

We saw that 5003 one but the screen looked a bit rubbish next to the widescreen ones.

The tesco one looks good too - I *think * its got a better gfx chip.

Picked it up tonight and its really nice, the wireless gets a better signal than my desktops do, and the cpu is 1.73ghz too

Only thing I dont like is it doesnt come with any install disks, instead theres software to create a DVD image. The hdd is split into 3 partitions, one of which is hidden and theyre all formatted as FAT32, which is odd.

Hidden partition is usually for drivers, using FAT 32 is for backward compatibility but should be easy enough to NTFS if you want

I used to use two partitions, one for the OS/programs and a second for data, only reason it isnt like that now is I have a pair of 120 GB drives.

I cba, it isnt my toy
