Mongoose

It has come to my attention that theres too much football in this forum. Now I enjoy a kick about as much as the next man, but there are other sports in the world.

SO,

what else (sport wise) do people do around here other than play and watch "the beautiful game"?

Ill go first

As some here know, at least those who remember my old avatar, I am a pistol shooter. I shoot black powder revolver (yes, that is still legal), .22 rimfire sporting rifle and have recently taken up .177 air pistol.

Im also a fencer. My weapon of choice is the Epee (a long, pointy dueling sword, similar to a rapier but without the cutting edge). I have been fencing for 4 years (since I started uni), and fenced for the Nottingham mens B team for the last 2. I am now on the Cambridge Uni 2nds. Last week we demolished my old teammates 135-48 (sorry guys!) and next week we take on University of Staffordshire.

Ive got the ball rolling, so come on, tell us all what fascinating and different sports you all do

redneck

i started rowing with Bournemouth uni, and i scuba dive. however scuba diving isnt competitive, the rowing is, and i have started a progressive training regime which will get me competitive in a short time.

Eagle

Pete

Snooker, pool & fishing keep me active and healthy :)
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Quixoticish

Iaijutsu and kenjutsu fairly reguarly, along with various seminars on other martial arts such as kobudo and systema, and even western swordsmanship from various ages.

I also used to do a lot of archery (with longbows and siege bows, modern compounds arent real archery) but I must admit Ive let that one slide in past months, I really need to take it up again.

Walrusbonzo

I play badminton most weeks, have been for nearly two years now.

Used to rock climb a bit too, but gave that up a couple of years ago.

Did play basketball a bit last year, but it kinda fell by the wayside. I was no good anyway.

Mark

Amateur powerlifting

In my younger years, schoolboys motocross, junior motocross, and stock cars

DeltaZero

I just think about sport and Im exhausted. Tiddlywinks for me.

DEViANCE

I play badminton everyweek and I have started doing Karate a couple of months ago, Im really into it actually and have started training 3 times a week.

Poison_UK

Extreme Frisby! Well thats what a load of the local uni students play...

Judo was the main one for me..

Clock'd 0Ne

I used to do basketball and thats as interesting as it got.

These days its power pint lifting and a healthy diet of burgers that keep me lean and mean.

Cypher

Nothing on a regular basis.  Just the occasional power kiting when Im in the mood with Chuck Norris.

Im half tempted at times by the idea of Archery Or Target Shooting.  Though Ive enver given it any serious thought.  I keep being told to take up bowling, I enjoy it a lot but honestly I get bored with it after 2-3 games.

I used to be rather good at badminton, but I just stopped it when I left school, truth if is I am no where near as fit I used to be.  Id probably struggle to do the cross country marathon that we did.

Vini

I used to watch Ice Hockey when i was about 7/8 and got back into it 2 seasons ago in a big way (not missed a home game for a while now), Ive just bought my first pair of Ice Skates today and am hoping to go along to a few training sessions starting on the 26th.

Im mainly going to play for fun and fitness, but might look at joining a proper team.

I did used to inline, so im hoping Ive still got it (quote Mel B)

I still do .22 target shooting.

Love it, 5 years shooting now :) and im still improving. lol mainly because I never put the effort in, in the last 4 years :D

Aiming to get my year average up to a 95 this year :) be somewhere near the decent regular shooters.

I shoot for Cardiff Uni Rifle :) currently participating in the Individual NSRA Postal shoot, the team of 8, and a little compo known as "the celtic league" (3 Unis... aberdeen, dublin, and cardiff). Then the bigguns during the year at Appleton, and Sutton Coldfield.

How do you improve? control your breathing/heart rate more? you dont have to worry about wind and stuff with that sort of shooting do you? (as opposed to 1000 yard things).
I tried clay pigeon once to see what itd be like - the guy tried to teach me to begin following with the gun in the shoulder all the way, but I found it hard to accelerate to be in front of the target and then slow to match the speed. Then he pulled the cord when I wasnt ready and I raised the butt into the shoulder and fired/hit all in one go successfully! Id like to try rifle shooting over a longer distance sometime.
