Hi All, :)

I recently bought a 3.5" HDD Network Enclosure as recommended by the good Knighty.

Ive recently put in my Samsung 400GB FAT32 hdd and plugged it into the network.

If I plug it into either my mac or my pc via the USB cable then it comes up and I can put things on it.

However if I plug the network cable into my router, as I want to do - it doesnt see it.

(My router is a linksys wireless-g)

Ive run out of ideas, can anyone suggest what may be the problem?

If you have tried lots of stuff then you might have done this already.

Disconnect you router from the phone line/internet and shut down the firewall on the PC. See if that allows you access.

Really there are a few things that can go wrong, have you signed into your router and checked if it has recognised the drive?

Is dhcp turned on on the router, i am guessing the nas isnt a fixed ip and if the router aint giving it one then it wont appear on the network

Hard drive needs to be formatted by the box itself i found.
Also takes a minute or two to actually settle on the network.

Also you can get the latest firmware from here.

yep, needs formating once youve connected it up via lan

.... tho if its already fat32 you might be ok...?

anyway

go into explorer and stick   http:\\Storage   in the address line

and thatll get you access to the config page and let you set it all up
(change ip address etc...)

p.s. my extra ones were a pain in the ass for some reason... but i had to go out... when i came back theyd changed there ip addresses and were working ! :)
