Koban wa! :)

Recently I got a brand spanking new/cheap BenQ DVD burner from an electronics fair in osaka... loud as hell when burning/reading under XP... and quiet as a whisper with kernel 2.6.18.3 I just compiled. :D

Anyone else got any other bits of hardware that they find does more/works better with a little tux power?

:w00t: Go Tux, go! :D

Wifi on both me lappie and desktop is more responsive when switching networks under Ubuntu. Linksys and Netgear cards respectively. The soundcard on both sounds better when recording under nix as well. Wierd.

I do admit to mostly running a stripped down XP on the laptop, with all open source replacements, as the graphics driver for dows is vastly superior to the nix one for that particular ATI chip.

I also didnt have to install drivers for the wifi cards, though setting up automatic roaming took a few minutes of research. :P

Got Slackware on my laptop and apart from CPU Throttleing issues that where resolved moving from 2.4 kernel to 2.6 it is a hell of a lot faster than it was on Win XP :)

The OpenSource ATI drivers are pritty good as well :)
