So I had the huge fiasco when I picked up the Redline. The shop totally screwed up all sorts of setup, so much as to put my life in danger. The final straw was the tires being absolute dogsh*t black gumwall $6 Kendas instead of the sweet $25 IRC Tandems on the specsheet. Employee said, "spec changes, theres nothing we can do." Screw that, its like jumping the price $50 after Ive bought the damn thing. Took it to the top, wrote a snail mail letter to the head of the 3 shop empire...and picked up my IRC Tandems today. No charge.

Theyre not as expensive as Conti Top Touring, but I dont do Continentals anyway. They are a bit faster, yet totally bomb proof with double thick oval tread and kevlar. Theyre intended for tandem bikes, but a lot of folks tour on them, as theyre faster than most dedicated touring tires, but still tough as hell. Compared to my old tires at 27mm wide and 23mm tall, these are a proper 30mm wide and 29mm tall. Thats a crapload more volume and due to having the same casing as IRCs sporting tires (they also make Avocets and Ritcheys, btw) they roll over urban detritus like Godzilla with a cush ride, yet are efficient and corner nicely. The sidewalls are supplicious while the tread is hellaciously thick. This, my friends, is what an urban tire should be. Not some overly wide and heavy nonsense, but a tire thats got some weight in the spots where it matters, the tread, but is otherwise fairly lean and fast.
