She wants one so she can print off pictures with good quality.

Shes not looking at spending a lot but enough to get a good quality print.

Thanks for any help

Mongoose

more or less anything that doesnt have a Lexmark badge will probably do the trick.

Personally I have bad luck with Epsons and good luck with HPs, but I know there is at least one person here with the opposite experience from the last time this came up. The only consensus we seemed able to come to was that Lexmark printers should be avoided at all costs.

I used to only buy Epsons, then had a HP which died and now a little cheapie Canon, which out of all of em looks great, prints great pictures/photos and is cheap. Would recommend Canon myself!

I have a canon.  It does (did) nice photos.  Just NEVER buy 3rd party cartridges, as it sends it up the sh*tter.  Mine has gone to piss, I need to switch all the carts back to canon ones and then hopefully it will recover.

depends, i bought one from office world the other week because they had no carts in for my HP.  Ã,£19.99 for a Z640 including 2 carts.  Yes folks, the disposable printer has finally arrived!  Itll get binned when the ink runs out :D

Sweenster

Yeah, i am getting to that stage.

It is more expensive to buy a full set of carts for my epson than it cost me for the printer in the first place

HP or cannon, tbh anything else is only fit for the BIN!

I dont know.  For a Permanent Inkjet printer ill usually buy HP, though the Lexmark X85 I used to have was a brilliant little All in one, far better than any of the others I looked at.  Ive also got a Sammy Mono Laser, same quality, same speed and half the price of the  HP1010 i was also looking at.  Ok it isnt as pretty, but really who cares?

Serious

Avoid Lexmark like the plague, althoygh the printers themselves are cheap the carts are expensive and there are other issues like them chipping the carts.

Epson have the print head built into the printer, so if the jets get blocked you have to ditch the whole thing.

HP/Canon seem to be good enough options ATM, use the ink in the supplied carts then refil it with alternate, even if the jets end up unrepairably clogged you have lost nothing, just get a new printer/cartrige as you think appropriate.

TBH the printer companies have realised they have been digging a deep hole for themselves and the chances are they will be trying to sort this out over the next couple of years so rather than get an underpriced printer and then be robbed to pay for official carts the price of the printers will go up to reflect the true cost.

I have a much more expensive laser printer so never have the problem of blocked jets but also there was a lot more toner supplied than the equivalent ink so it might still be some time before I have the problem of replacing the carts in it. In the end it might end up cheaper to buy a new printer...

They all suck. Get a gift certificate for professional printing. Its often cheaper than doing it at home.

Yeah.  for 6x4s or whatever, ordering them from snapfish etc is cheaper than the paper and ink alone sometimes!
