We all know that vista is being released with 6 different versions of itself.

Starter, Basic, Premium, Business, Enterprise, Ultimate

But just how many versions of XP are there?? :)

Answer will be revealed in a few days :D

Eggtastico

do the hacked cutdown ones count?

Off the top of my head:-
XP Home, Pro, Mediacentre, Students (if that counts), Tablet, 64bit + the Lite versions (think theres 2 of them)

M3ta7h3ad

lol any actual xp versions count.

So Students... isnt a students edition its just student pricing :) its still the same software, so no.. that doesnt count :D

bear

You mean versions distributed by M$ ? or do u mean editions ?

M3ta7h3ad

Er... there is a difference??

I mean ones officially distributed by Microsoft, so none of this BARTPE/XPLITE nonsense.

Mardoni

and I guess youre counting

XP Pro
XP Pro SP1
XP Pro SP2

As 1 version too ?

In which case I think its 5:

Home
Pro
Media
64
Alpha

That is also not including all of the different language versions :)

If I could really be bothered I would dig out my MSDN DVDs and count them up :D

lol well XP pro sp1 sp2... is the same as XP Home sp1 sp2, xp 64 sp1 sp2, so really sp1 sp2 doesnt change the number of currently published versions out there. :)

Beaker

you missed out embedded edition, even thoug hit sucks, and windows for legacy PC could be classed as XP despite being stripped back.

Yeah I know where youre coming from but there are seperate installable versions with each SP streamlined in !

Bloody MS and their magical money making ways !

Hokay... here are zee answers.

There is..

Windows XP Home
Windows XP Professional
Windows XP Embedded
Windows XP Tablet
Windows XP 64bit
Windows XP fundamentals for legacy computers
Windows XP Starter
Windows XP Media Centre

that would mean... that there would be 8 versions of windows XP :)

There 2 more versions of XP that differ from the main one by only one program :D... what be they called? :)
