Hehehe

The ps4 will be out first at this rate!!

Serious

At that rate everyone will have an Xbox 360 or Wii before it hits the shelves...

Id still bet its coming out in March, although I wouldnt bet on anyone caring.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Vini

If people are that bothered theyll import one...

Though i dont understand how many changes they need to make, in order to make it PAL... surely its not 12 months worth?

edit: oh i see, component shortages... haha. its gonna be the rarest console on earth. who the hell is going to want to program for the ps3 when theres hardly any out there

Deaths Head

No changes at all hardware wise as you can plug a Jap/US in straight away just by using a UK kettle lead.

Mardoni

Can you say NeoGeo ??

I seem to recall that was never released into the UK after massive component shortages and random other setbacks.

I really dunno what Sony are doing but it does make a change to find a company who are not that fussed with getting their crap on the shelves in good old rip-off-Britain :)

Their strategy really baffles me.... it seems like Sony execs saw the PS2 sales reach 200m+ and thought these lot will spend any amount so basically went nuts with the spec.... making it too bleeding edge to drive down costs in a reasonable amount of time let alone source components easily and reliably!

Apparently MS has already managed to drive down costs sufficiently that theyre already making something on each 360 sold.

When you look at what probably 60% of PS3 purchases will look like - console, a game or two, an accessory or two and maybe online services your easily looking at Ã,£5-600! And surely people dont expect the price to come down any time soon?

Who in their right mind would spend that much when (especially by Q2/307) you can get an incredible 360 package with 3 games and accessories plus a Wii package with the same, for about the same if not less cash! Youd get 90% of the bleeding edge potential of the PS3 with the 360 (and a better online experience) in addition to all the fun from the Wii.

I think Sonys strategy is driven too much by bluray.... theyre probably thinking if they can get to 1/5 or 1/4 of the PS2 sales with PS3 they would have done enough to secure Blurays survival... just as physical media begins to take a hammering from online delivery of content by 2010-15.

redneck

HA!

ps3 was a donkey all along, only serious headcases will piss that amount of money away.

Sweenster

This is slowly turning into the jaguar of the new next gen age...

Too expensive, not enough games and not enough sales!

Beaker

if this does happen itll bury the PlayStation branding in Europe for a long time, if they ever manage to actually make a comeback.  Itll _only_ be hardcore fanboys who buy them, and theyll not be looking at any cheap console hardware or games for a while.  Plus if developers are loosing out in both the main markets and Europe due to supply problems theyll Jump ship to either the 360 or Wii, if not PC Games as they usually sell fairly steadily if they are good.

Serious

Sony are claiming they are still on target for the European launch

Beaker

They where on-track for a September 2006 release, then they promised they would release "Some time before christmas", now they are on March.  Would we be surprised if it slipped further?

If it does slip again would we be surprised if it falls completely on its arse because its competing against consoles with a 2 year and a 10 month lead?

TheMallrat

Theyre also claiming that they are still on target to ship 2 million consoles in the US & Japan by the end of this year despite having shipped less than half a million so far.

Dave

methinks I need a wii

though Im not going to jump on the bandwagon of simply dismissing the PS3 completely - Sony will certainly lose a large portion of thier current market share to nintendo & microsoft but I dont think it will be a complete flop - sony are too big to allow that to happen - so long as they manage to capture a reasonable enough market share in the US and japan then it isnt really that important for them to rush to get it launched in europe - developers will still be working for regardless of whether they are no1 or not in terms of consoles sold & so there will be plenty of titles for it IMO - though Im not going to be in any rush to buy one.

Nintendo on the other hand really have pulled one out of the bag - methinks Ill be getting a wii (though Ill wait a few months for some good deals).
