My cars started to make humming noises everytime I rev up. Even when in neutral Ive opened the door and the sound is definitely coming from the rear. Any ideas what it is specifically?

Beaker

how old is the exhaust?

If its a Humming Noise then im inclined to say some baffles in the back box have come loose.  Cheap exhausts are a complete turd for it.

Serious

Also check its fastened on right and not bent. Some cars have vulnerable exhausts which can get damaged going over sleeping policemen traffic ramps.

FuMaN

Hmm Ive no idea but my cars only a 52 plate. I thought that maybe its developed a hole.

DEViANCE

could be a loose heatsheild

Could be one of 5,000 things. Get it up on a lift and have a look.

Agreed, take it to your local friendly garage thatll let you use their lift for a little while :D

Ended up needing the middle and rear replacing. Cost me Ã,£180, is that reasonable? I dont even have an idea.

Chuck Norris

Not really considering it cost me Ã,£40 to have mine done at kwik fit.

Sounds like you just got fd in the a to me.  They persuade you to go for stainless?

soopahfly

Stainless sucks anyway,  Too noisy and solid. Doesnt flex like regular steel so it cracks.

knighty

how many miles has it done ?

52 plate is a bit young for a new exhaust :o

Chris

When the exhaust went on my nexia, it split at the mid section leaving the perfectly good rear silencer useless.

So i went and found the cheapest mid and rear sections i could, for about Ã,£50 and got them fitted when it went for its MOT a week later, conviniently.  Ã,£80 labour for that and a couple of other things.

Serious

Often, if its a neat split at a weld, you can weld it back together again. I have done so in the past, the welding kit cost less than an exhaust and I have used it elsewhere too.

FuMaN

Yer I thought I got ripped off, oh wells I just wont go back there again! It needed new clamps too.

Its done about 48k miles.
