Which is the cheaper option to run and which would be the best ?

Shakey

I dont know which is cheaper to run, but I definitely prefer using electric ovens, as long as I can still have a gas hob. Electric hobs annoy me no end, when I turn the power down on the hob I like it to go down without having to wait 10 min.

My suggestion is if you cant get an electric oven with a gas hob, just go for gas all round for sheer convenience.

Given how ridiculously expensive electricity has become recently Id have to say a gas oven. I definately prefer cooking on an all gas range.

Gas is a lot cheaper to run for an oven, but you probably wouldnt notice the difference unless you were cooking for hours every day. Traditional gas ovens have a graded temperature range from top to bottom which is useful for some types of cooking. I had a modern gas oven which was actually fan-driven which did away with this.
Gas is more controllable than electricity in that it can be regulated by turning down the flow, whereas electric elements are usually controlled thermostatically - this is ok for an oven but rubbish for a grill - electric grills come from Beelzebubs bottom imho. Gas hobs are vastly better too.

Gas. The oven issue is pretty much gone now that they come with nice electronic thermostats, even at the bottom of the range.

My kingdom for a gas oven!!

Spent the last 5 years in student houses/flats/etc and all of them have had electric ovens, and being I love to cook it really annoyed me.

Ill swap, all my student houses had gas ovens. The oven may have been cheap to run, but once you factor in all the food that ends up burnt......

stupid ****** things, new ones might be fine but old gas ovens are a pointless waste of time. I almost prefer my current house (which has no oven at all grrr).

gas hobs > solid.

the amount of burnt food due to stupid decisions made.

Gas is way better, they double as a lighter too.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

I have a built in electric oven, gas hob and a full cooker with eye level grill cause I dont like bending down to examine things cooking.

Usually the gas is better.

I know gas is way better for the hobs etc...

but Id have thought electric would be cheaper for the actual oven, because an electric oven can be pretty much air tight... where as a gas one needs a flow of air (oxygen for the burning gas)

....just kind of assumed that was why most new houses come with a  gas hob and an electric oven as standard ?

Serious

No, they tend to lay a gas pipe for the hob and use electric for the oven due to installation costs. Built in electric ovens are cheaper and easier to install than gas and if you are putting in sockets you use the same cable for both

An electric oven can be put in the middle of a 32 amp mains ring cable in the kitchen and considered as a normal socket. You cant do that with a full electric cooker, it needs its own 45 amp supply cable, which can also be expensive.

As cooking with gas is considered easier than with electric because of the control you have the Gas hob does have an advantage over electric anyway.
