Im new to all this running thing really, but am into my runnning training for the Paris half marathon and wondered if anyone has any tips for me, about running before someone does the yellow snow one :D

I have all the kit that I need, I think but wonder if anyone out there knows of anything else I should be thinking of.

Drink some water on the way round, but dont gulp like a camel after a fortnights heavy sand-chewing... Think thats undid me when I did the GNR a while back, got a stitch and had to slow down for 10 mins or so while I recovered, otherwise might have done under 1:40.

Good luck anyway, half-marathon is a fun distant I reckon, long enough to be in agony at the end, but short enough that you can push yourself quite hard for a good way of it.
"Within your 'purview'? Where do you think you are, some f**king regency costume drama? This is a government department, not some f**king Jane f**king Austen novel!"

There are zillions of guides out there.

As a former recreational runner, Id say the biggest thing you can do, apart from a training schedule, is to get down to a proper scrawny running weight before the run. Thats if you plan on having any sort of decent time. Otherwise, anybody that can run five miles can *finish* a half marathon handily.

Dont forget to vaseline your nipples. :D

Surely thats another forum.

Well I could find as many guides as I liked on the net I wanted people who have actually done it themselves to tell me what they did.

Nope, inner thighs too, both can get chaffed and be pretty painful.

Petroleum jelly = runners best friend...

Yup, Im not joking at all. Running tops will abrade the skin from your nipples sometimes, depending on your form and the type of fabric. It is NOT fun. :gag:

If its sunny, you really want to think about a lightweight running hat with a visor and some shades, but I think that applies more to these southern climes where you really have to watch out for the sun during marathon season--its cool still, but you can get sunstroke due to the intensity.

If your feet start to burn, get attention immediately, as a quick application of adhesive moleskin can prevent you from losing your own.

Ive not run a half, but I used to routinely run close to ten miles quite often, and the same issues would come up.

I used to treat people every year running the Newcastle marathon, sometimes it was fun, others boring. Get down wind of the runners and it was :gag:

Vaseline *always* attracted runners like bees to honey though

New Years day Hexham/Newcastle run only had amatures though and they were less of  problem.

If you average it out there are very few deaths. Most years there are none. They had a Vaseline shortage which wasnt my fault cause I wasnt there :P

From 26 marathons thre have been 13 deaths, 4 during 2005 but only one last year IIRC.
