well i managed to lose a chunk of trouser to my front derailieur yesturday. it also knocked it such that i cant use the top gear.

anyone got any advice to get it back?

soopahfly

carefully move it back?  unless youve bent the mech.

Shift down so that there is no cable tension. Loosen bolt that attaches derailleur to seat tube, adjust so that outside of cage is perfectly parallel to chainrings. Shift and turn pedals to shift onto middle ring, adjust cable tension so that you can use the entire cluster without any rubbing. Use the thumb screw on the shifter for this.

Hope it worked for ya. Front mechs are far more of a PITA than rears. You have to get the angle, height, and cable tension just right. It used to be OK to be a bit off in the beforetime when front shifters werent stupidly indexy.

/me laments my old 90 105 gruppo, friction left, click or friction right.
