i am arguing with some hot female mountain biker online at the moment about Full Sus, disc braked super rigs vs Singlespeed fully rigid bikes for XC racing.

Its getting heated! i think if i trot the party line of...

"its not about the bike, but how fit and skilled the rider is"

again, shell hunt me down and kill me.

but i am right.

WAR!

i still think id blitz most riders on my 29er, even though theyve got bikes worth three times the value of mine. :D

Serious

Its about 80% rider to 20% bike

Full suspension may be more comfortable but it does slow you down slightly - not that I care  8)

Depends on your terrain, tbh. Id be more than happy with a 29er and some cantis or vees. There are plenty of trails around here where FS is a godsend--but if I get back into off roading, youll see me doing zen singletrack and xcountry--nothing stoopid.

Im very tempted to expand my Redline fleet just thinking about it. :D

$470:

Id deffo think about getting some On One Mary bars to go with it. :ptu:

Meh, Im just over futzing with stuff. I took my fixie out in the -10C chill last night for a quick five mile urban curb jumping as-the-crow-flies kinda ride, and its just so nice to have a machine so elemental and simple, that makes almost no noise, whether it be the drivetrain, or the lack of chain slap when you come off a curb. :D

However, Im in the market for a mid to late 80s touring rig. I have a couple spare Shimano cassette hubs I can build up and run 8 speed friction hyperglide--probably the least annoying setup for multiple gears. An early 80s mtb with Suntour thumbie ratchets would be awesome as well, but are very hard to find these days, as the shifters alone are a cult part.
