Paulus

Can someone reccomend a good webhost based in the UK.

Ive had it with etglobal

Beaker

would you consider a non-UK host if their record is good enough?

i.e. 2 days downtime in 3 years.

Paulus

I would prefer a UK host if possible.

Its for a shop and 95% of the traffic is from the UK.

Even Im thinking of abandoning ship...

Dont mind paying a little more TBH.

Hmm, 5gb space and 250gb transfer from godaddy for about twenty quid a year if I go two years. Looks interesting.

Paulus

Well etglobal have been down for 2 days now so Im starting to think they have just given up.

Godaddy seem great for the bandwidth and tech support. The only thing is the control panel takes a bit of getting used to.

Ive used 1and1.co.uk for years and never had any problems. Mates web design company uses them for clients aswell

Would steer clear.

I own M3-computers.info and RichardHicks.info through them, cancelled my account to stop renewal. They renewed anyway, then cancelled my account, and have now denied me access to the control panel. Despite several frustrating long phone calls talking to indian guys at the end of the phone I am now at the stage where they want me to re-sign up with them and pay another Ã,£20 for access to the admin panel for my domain names.

I own them purely in name only, and whats more, they had the gall of charging me Ã,£40 for the 2 domain names... no refunds. Bastards the lot of em. Steer clear of 1&1, they are fine when you are with them, the moment you leave they become cocks.

Will do. I have 2 friends who used to work in the UK call center (I even inteviewed for a job with them myself) I wouldnt go any where near 1&1

Think Im going for godaddy.

nethosted.co.uk, one man band as far as i can tell, sub 10 minute response time for support calls.

might be tempted to keep big commerce sites with bigger hosts, but for personal sites and small to medium, this guy rocks

Looks good, I think Ill give these a go. Im loosing patience with ETGlobal.

Paulus

I ended up going for godaddy. The price and bandwidth take a lot of beating.

The site has been down since Friday now I think its safe to say they have gone for good. Would have been nice if they had given some notice to everyone.
