Does anybody know of any free S.M.A.R.T HDD monitoring software and any other software that is good for ensuring that data does not get corrupt!

No to the corrupt part as that isnt always down to the physical drive.

I use HDTune to see whats what. It gives you a good idea of whats going on inside the drive.
