I updated to the newest Ubuntu kernel. My very standard linksys wifi card wasnt recognized. It was just a matter of rebooting and using the old kernel till this is fixed.

Im going to try installing "ubuntu-desktop" again and see if that installs something missing in the metapackage that made the newer kernel not play good with the wifi.

Did a quick update and the issue was resolved.
