FFS.

If M$ cant make a console that cant crack discs, they bring piracy on themselves.

Mardoni

*eek*

and youve got a much newer console than quite a few of us on here :s

p.s.
I hear what youre saying about the yard-arm versions ;)

soopahfly

No qualms in admitting, when this one gets replaced Its getting backed up.

PuNk

i heard that it only tends to happen if you have your console standing up.

so out of curiosity is your console standing up or flat on its side?

I back up all my games & leave the originals in the shop :-D

skidzilla

Have mine on its side, I say a little prayer to the FSM every time I change discs. :P

Just wondering; is there any correlation between the drive types and cracked discs at all?

soopahfly

Mines the Hitachi LG 0078FK

surely its a disc fault and not a console problem.  A cd drive spins at a certain speed.  It doesnt matter if that cd drive is in a pc, an xbox or a car dashboard.

If the disc cracked it did it from rotational forces of spinning at high speed and nothing to do with the console.  People only notice discs breaking in consoles because the discs spin at maximum speed for long periods of time when you play a game.  Audio cds are spun much slower and data cds are rarely accessed for long periods.

Its not going to be the drive quality.  CD spindles in cd drives are pretty good at cushioning shocks and are standard designs.  Backing ups not a bad idea but I doubt its anything to do with the xbox specifically.

Nah, its been *proven* that there is some component (readhead ?) that gets out of sync with spinning the disk and as a result the disk is spun into the component.

MS havent said that this is an offical problem yet though.
