Am I right in thinking that all I need for a core 2 duo is some ddr2 4200? I dont actually need 800mhz ram cos thatd give 1600mhz fsb..

Whats the best memory for around £31?

sdp, clueless :D

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Beaker

Im using http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=527001

Decent enough, same performance as the Corsair i was also looking it, and half the price.  It has Samsung Chips on the stuff ive got.

Depends on what divider you run the memory on.
4200 will be okay.
6400 will be faster , the divider in the bios can be altered to allow the memory to cpu ratio to be run @ different speeds.
So the cpu will be @ 266 & the memory @ 400.Not a big hit on performance on Intel chipsets running asynchronously.
For instance my memory is running @ 536.2(doubling this gives 1072) with a
4:5 divider my cpu is running @ 429(max overclock on default voltage).
The memory is 8500 so it is running @ stock basically.
Have a look around for ram as i have seen 2gb of 6400 for under £60 including VAT.
Who the smeg is Dwayne Dibbley ?

I was looking at this stuff; http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=91124

Only reason for ebuyer is the £!0 off thing :)

edit: wot psu should I get for a c2d system? is 300wotts enough?

That memory should be fine.
PSU wattage depends on the other components in the setup.
300w sounds low but probably would be fine if the other components are not power hungry but i would go for a descent 400w.
Mine overclocked , 3 hard drives , DVD , 8800 GTS pulls about 325w full load(gaming).Fully loaded CPUs (running Orthos) it pulls about 240w.

Thanks all :)

I been thinking and I want a 22" screen more than a bit of speed so Im gonna pass it on to my mate cos hell gimme full retail + beer tokens and accept that I wont fix it for free if he breaks it.

Probably:

e4300
mobo
1gb ram
250gb hdd
DVDR
Cheapy gfx card.

lol I seem to recall we used to rate the reliability of mobos on how long it took you to kill them :D

Shame these are out of stock now got mail other day, seems they were snapped up:

With ddr3 announcement ddr2 prices (after i bought mine ffs) have fallen a lot, few months ago paying 100 quid + you can now get for 50-60 some good deals to be had.

Prices took a nose dive after a very big lawsuit in the US , apparently someone got fined big time for price fixing .
