Can someone give me a walkthrough pls. I dunno the 1st thing about ntl, does the router go by mac address? Im swapping out a pc for a mate - both have onboard lan.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Im assuming its NTL Cable?

If so then just drop the cable modem, plug everything together as you would normally, then power everything back up.

I understand that you dont need the NTL software but are you saying that you dont need their cable modem either if you are plugging it into your onboard LAN?

Dave.

Dave.

you plug the Cable modem RJ45 output into the router input.  Im assuming its the same setup as a telewest connection.

I have to go through the following when hooking up a new router:

1) Get MAC address of NIC currently connected to NTL modem (WAN port on old router).
2) Switch off old router and cable modem.
3) Plug PC straight into Cable modem
4) Change MAC on PC NIC to match MAC from router
5) Switch on Modem
6) Wait until PC picks up NTL WAN IP
7) Do a ipconfig /release
8) Switch off modem
9) Change new router WAN MAC to match old router WAN MAC
10) Plug NTL Modem into new router WAN port
11) Reset PC NIC MAC

I have to go this process as my connection is based on MAC. I pretty much have a static IP from NTL too; its changed twice in 9 years !

If hes able to use the NTL web configuration thing then you should just be able to:

1) ipconfig /release on PC
2) Plug Modem into new PC
3) Boot PC and wait for a 169.x.x.x address
4) In the browser type: start.ntl
5) Follow the web setup.
