Someone I know has asked me to make a C# application basically like CDex or EAC etc to rip CDs and also convert between WAV, AAC, MP3 and WMA.

I dont really know where to start so my question is are there any libraries etc that I can use to do the actual ripping and conversion?

Note: I am very new to this .NET malarky (and it probably shows).

no idea how to do it exactely but I would take a look at Planet Source Code and if that didnt yeild anything useful. I would look into how to use DirectShow Audio Filters/Codecs.

I suspect you should be able to pipe through DirectShow to provide the encoding/conversion and then capture the output to disk rather than delivering it to the standard output device (soundcard).

I think most of these applications simply pass command line parameters to external encoders such as lame.exe once the ripping is done, so that should be easy (its the ripping thats gonna be the hard part).

You could always get the source code for the particular encoders/decoders and integrate them with your code for more streamlined solution.
