Help me please, I need to find an ISP with consistant speed, not the" peak time we cant handle the load services."

Right now Im with NTL and yes they have CRAP customer service, but so what. I use the 1mb cable package with unlimited download for 4 years. And it perfect.

I am moving home later this year out of town to a village that doesnt have cable broadband installed, and Im upset.

My fiances father uses TalkTalk broadband on his BT line in the similar area, and his 2mb download service is crap compared to the 1mb serive I get from NTL. I ran an ADSL test on his link and it barely reached 384kbp download.

NTL Service is UNLIMITED - ALL the ADSL Services I look at that offer unlimted service are blocking uplaod and peak downloads to allow fair service to all their customers. NTL have not & do not do this, why do the other ISPs get away with this crap and who else offers a true unrestriced service like NTL?

WHICH (non-cable) ISP CAN DELIVER WHAT THEY ACTUALLY SELL AND DONT RESTRICT DOWNLOADS OR UPLOADS OR IMPOSE PEAK TIME USAGE POLICYS?

Costs more than other ISPs, but offers truely unlimited (no peak times) broadband up to 2Mbit.

You get what you pay for... :)

i used to be on Prodigy.  I lasted 6 months before getting pissed off with them.  Their connection speeds got slower, and slower, and slower until i had a _brilliant_ 384/16 conneciton.

While that issue was eventually sorted after i left it would appear that any issues with server load arent dealt with very quickly becuase they just dont have the cash availble to buy more pipespace

theyre moving onto limits as well soon.

cant recommend plusnet in this case as theyre getting stupid with usage caps and application traffic throttles atm.

if it wasnt so cheap with referals i wouldnt still be with em i dont think,
its not had an impact on me that i know of but sods law, one day it will and ill be up a creak without a paddle

Next provider I am moving to is going to be one on the OFCOM list.

At least then I have an avenue to go down should the customer service be complete crap.

NTL arent unlimited... hell they have been trying to cap connections for years but seem to be having trouble doing it, There ideal is everyone with 10Mbit and you pay different amounts depending on usage.

Dunno where you got the idea they are unlimited, and tbh, on a 1meg connection you could download 24/7 and they wouldnt notice compared to those on 3meg or 10meg.

[EDIT]
Just looked at their site and it seems they are unlimited for the lower connections, seems the whole monitoring system was too expensive so they are just limiting those on the higher connection.

NUTS.

You pay more for a faster limited service. 2meg unlimited, 3meg 75gig limit.

Im not a huge fan of caps, but i also dont run near the,  Im staying on plusNet until i move now.  Going to be moving house in the next few months and would prefer not to be tied to a provider for 12 months until then.  AS it is i got an e-mail this morning informing me that i _may_ 8Mb in pretty soon.  Chances are though that will cpa itself out at about 4mb due to my distance from the exchange.

i thought there was no chance at work of 8mbps as its on the border of the town.

but its synced at 8128 kbps downstream and 832 upstream

just gotta wait for mine at home now (rough calc says between 3mbps and 4mbps maximum)

just looked at my usage at home and its not as bad as i though,
the 15gb peaktime cap leaves me about 10gb free on average.
mainly web surfing and online games (+ patches and demos)

funny how peaktime is when everyone gets home

that doesnt really matter as much as i thought years ago.  The exchange im connected to is the same one a lot of the local small IT Companies connect to.  The exchange is i believe already SDSL enabled anyway, and it isnt the "main" one for the town. :|

Ive check my logs, last month I uploaded about 20gb of data and pictures, and downloaded about 30gb of data. Inc emails music and gaming.

I will pay a reasonable fee and Im not looking of uber speed, 1mb is fine. But I do not want to be capped. NTL do not cap their 1024/128 which suits me fine, Im only looking of a non cable ISP to offer something similar.

Anyone have any dealings with satelite ISP and their services and performance?
