You select your normal res (1280x1024) then it asks whether you want to enter all the details, or to select it yourself from a list..... i selected from a list and chose the bogo 1280x1024 60mhz..... works fine and ive now got a decent desktop area!!

Although GAIM doesnt want to stay signed in to MSN for more than a few minutes, ive googled and looked on the GAIM faqs/bug reports but still no joy!!

Could be the local MSN server. I get thrown off of MSN hourly sometimes, but not often enought to be irritating.

Try aMSN and see if the same thing happens, its available via Synaptic.
