I saw this

Thats just a scoreboard, cinemas with these screens must not be far away now and for me would make movies on a whole new level
HD that big, OMG

Cypher

Err correct me If I wrong, but what difference would this make?

Cinemas use the full 35mm reel, and some are allready using 70mm or digital projectors as Sam has recently praised.

It also comes down to the choice of film that producer use to record their film.    George lucas for example used the 24p HD format to record Episode III instead of regular 35mm.

The point is when we watch it on DVD or even Blueray/HD-DVD, it is a compressed version of the original master reel, along with the fact the natural ratio of the cinema picturewhich is wider has to fit on our 16:9 or 4:3 tvs.  There is no improvement to be made.

If you really want a cinema experience, take a trip to your local i-Max theatre.

HD doesnt mean much anyway. All these HD ready LCD TVs with 15pin VGA inputs only out there. The markets flooded with em.
Wont do 720p or 1080i right?
Best bet is DVI/HDMI input.

Serious

There are still plenty of supposed HD ready sets that will only handle wide screen VGA in places like Currys/Dixons...

I think witha  screen like that they can do away with the projector all together...

There is also the cost, for cinemas its going to be *much* cheaper to upgrade the projector than put one of those in and they can continue to use the old projection screen.

tbh, if you get a hdtv ensure it has hdcp as very soon it will be needed for the next gen dvd players

Doesnt stop you using it with a computer. Many screens are a widescreen computer resolution

next gen dvd players (well, most are already out) use dvi, component and HDMI connectors.
HDCP is just the software that the tv uses to decrypt/uncompress the signal that will be sent via sky etc. (IIRC) obviously if the tv doesnt do hdcp, then you wont be able to watch certain channels.

My lcd is a 27" toshiba i got for bargain price from costco (customer return), doesnt have hdmi, but has dvi, and every other connector aswell as doing hdcp so il get hdmi dvd player and buy hdmi --> dvi cable. sorted

yeah 1080p is the highest spec available, youl pay a lot of dosh for that!
firmware updates for lcd tvs are a good thing to look for...

just for those that dont know, hdmi is dvi with audio. so if you have dvi you will need seperate audio connections to do the dvi-hdmi :)

also try component if possible mate, thats what im using and PQ is awesome on both prog scan and interlaced 8)
