My friend wants a new PC building, what would you guys change/improve and why?? Like change the graphics card, ram, chip etc??

Cheers :)

knighty

all looks pretty much ok to me...

for the ram Id go with crucial if its about the same preice.... the lifetime guarantee is a hell of a bonus !

(fixed a few PCs where the ram went bad recently!)

most importantly.... you NEED a better case... or just a better psu for that one.... itll be a really cheap, really crap one.... a inadequate psu causes no end of problems !

as for gfx.... im not really up on gfx cards (changes too quick for me!) but thats looks ok depending on what he does... (if hes just a casual user or a MAJOR gameor)

mr_roll

Does it need a Sound card if its on the mobo already?

Might save a little bit of money or make you a bit of money.

I thought Kingston did lifetime warranty as well Alan.

Id swap the WD HDD for a Seagate, much better drives IMO and better warranty. Personally Id put a bit more money into the motherboard too, Asrock are twitchy crap at times.

mr_roll is right, your onboard sound will be as good as that Soundblaster, put that £13 to better use.

mr_roll

Isnt socket 775 a little old too? or is it just me? cant you get a AM2 mobo for a similar price?

Beaker

Im agreeing with Clockd, the Seagate drives are excellent, and the warranty is the best on the market at the moment.  5 years means you should be upgrading before the drives are out of warranty anyway.

Socket 775 is about as new/standard as socket A was, it wont change for a while, all the new dual/quad cores are using it :)

funkychicken9000

Yeah, AM2 is getting replaced next year anyway IIRC

chrisdicko

Thanks for the advice guys.

Ill change the hard drive to a Seagate one then, and look at a better Mobo.....is there any recommendation for one that shouldnt give me any probelms? Ill remove the sound card as well, didnt think about the onboard sound for some stupid reason  :whoops:  Ill double check on the  Kingston warranty as well, if not Ill swap if for Crucial stuff!! Will let my mate know about the case/PSU as well.

They have made AM2 backwards compatible with AM3.

Change Hard drive for a seagate.
Get a decent a case.

Other than that, its a solid choice.

chrisdicko

Whats a decent case/PSU? Ive only ever bought cheapo ones before!

Clock'd 0Ne

Id recommend an Antec case+PSU combo myself.

Rivkid

Probably gonna get flamed but I still love my Chietec Dragon in black. Looks great with a red cathode. :D
Career, Wife, Mortgage... my sig was better when it listed guitars and PC's and stuff!

Shakey

Dudes, socket AM2 is for AMD chips, 775 is for intel chips.

chrisdicko

Hes ordered all the bits! Changed what you guys said, so it should be a good build.
