Whats the correct terminolgy?
Im using a windows XP disk
Im using a windows XP disc

Whats the difference?

Miss_Kinky

American copy we spell disc and they spell it disk or vice versa

Clock'd 0Ne

Disc = any round flat medium, e.g CD

Disk = old skool square jobbies.

Alien8

disk tends to be magnetic based, while disc tends to be optical

Disk:
hard disk
floppy disk

Disc:
 compact disc
(high def) Digital video disc
Blue ray Disc

etc etc

Ahh Nige, you are a great fountain of knowledge.

Beaker

interchangable TBH, IIRC Disk is the US Version, hence its use in computing.  Disc is the British version, and we tend to use that more often from non-IT related things.

Its not so clear cut it seems any way you look at it and they are interchangeable. I like my simple explanation for its logic though, and that follows suit from the old analogue disc and etymology in discus. :D

But simplicity may not always be the answer

Mark

solution - dont use it

cd
bluray
dvd
hddvd
etc

Thats the way Ive always used them - even if theyre technically interchangeable that seems to be the convention.
