Does your netgear router have any DNS problems?

Specifically the 108Mbps wireless variety

Beaker

The 834GT?  Not in my experience, for a small home wireless network they are actually pretty good, and in my experience actually more reliable than some "pro" routers.

madmax

never had a problem that wasnt related to line conditions so far, quick reboot to re-sync and alls well after.

loss of signal in bad weather is the main culprit, although it holds onto the signal better than my set top freeview box

I dont know if mine is a DNS error, but every few days I have to unplug, then plug back in my netgear router! All the lights are on, but when you go to use the net, it just gives a page can not be dispayed, and a reboot fixes this. Just getting a bit annoying to be honest.

madmax

which version do you have? im on the DG834 v3,
reboot once a month at most to get my line speed back up.

chrisdicko

Its a DG834GT, not sure what version! But its firmware V1.02.09 if that makes any difference.

madmax

ive only had dealings with the DG834 and 834G, looks like the GT uses a completely seperate line of firmware.

next time it does it, see if you can ping an internet address (google.co.uk etc)
if that doesnt work, log into it and see if you can ping from the diagnostic page.

might be able to narrow it down to its dhcp server giving out the wrong server settings or something.

Reboot seems to work for my router after about 4 days I think

Are you running any torrent or other P2P apps as sometimes they can cause the same problem, which can be resolved by reducing the time-out on active connections...

I think you can have it on both, however itd be on the router in this instance I think.

chrisdicko

Cant actually see it anywhere on the router.

Itll be on the router, Im pretty sure there used to be a setting for it on my netgear, you should just be able to google for it. If I remember Ill check out my old netgear when I go home, otherwise a firmware upgrade might fix it?
