or they are cheap, get extended mileage/years warranty?

Being cheap is part of good value, free extended warranty means the makers expect them to last a long time without major problems developing.

red

no. 80% of components have to last 10 years of more, ec directive ordered. having a 3 year warranty on a car is a cost of provision/money gained by them keeping the car after 3 years. most auto manufacturers get lobbied by their showroom franchises to decrease warranties because they cant charge you an arm and a leg for a part.

Mark

Just get a 200 SX ffs

an s14a

plenty of room, big, and can be made very quick for cheap.

Binary Shadow

yeah actually 200sx could be a possible.. iv been considering Mitsu Legnums lol they are pretty mad cars

chrisdicko

MY mate has got a 200SX and loves it. Its in the most perfect condition you could imagine! He wont take it out if its gonna be bad weather etc. His is around 400BHP, with no traction control either!

i nearly bought a 1994 5.0 v8 Ford Mustang.. but it was sold..

going super sensible now and looking at diesel Passats

Mark

you had a lucky escape - that 302 V8 is a piece of sh*t, and theyre unbelievably slow. 215bhp from 5 litres - utterly woeful

Some good deals available on the passats, but the (imo) better looking boras are cheaper.

Mark

the yanks really have no clue do they - read this

"Of course, the 1994 powertrain options were not significantly different from the previous years. The V6 was a 3.8 liter engine with 145 horsepower. The GT was bigger and stronger with more muscle. It boasted a 302 cubic inch 5.0 liter V8 engine that powered out an amazing 215 horsepower at 4200 rpm and 285 foot pounds of torque at 3400 rpm. The Cobra was even more powerful with a 5.0 liter V8 engine that muscled out 240 horsepower at 4800 rpm and 285 foot pounds of torque at 4000 rpm. The standard transmission was the manual five speed however a four speed automatic option was available."

An AMAZING 215 hp - LOL

Serious

About standard for Yankee hype though.

OTOH the engines are really understressed and beg for turbocharging or something to put the power up.

Binary Shadow

yeah you can get some serious grunt out of them but 215 standard is terrible

Binary Shadow

one or 2 peaked my interest but iv gotta remain sensible.. that lotus looked the nuts tho (£4k as well)

DEViANCE

fiat coupe 20v is a good shout, servicing is a nightmare on them tho.

sensible is a good idea, you might struggle to find a nice bora tdi for 4k tho, ive been looking at those.

loads of tdi passats and they are very good cars, bit clinical though.

If i wanted a nice driving, great value diesel. i would get a R 620 GSDI.

Binary Shadow

yeah well were not all rover fanbois ;)

Im looking at a 2000 passat 2.5 TDI tomorrow.. got loads of kit and looks pretty good

soopahfly

Id still look some more on pistonheads, seems to be more enthusiast owned stuff.  Loads of boras/passats too.
