How do you set up a router without a disc, they  say download a driver,
Which one all they have is firmware, how stupid.

I bought this for my kids.
Netgear NTL/Telewest WGR614 G Wireless Router 54MB!
I cant get it workling, guess why, no driver.

The site I bought it frtom say this,

PACKAGE INCLUDES

Top

- Netgear WGR614NAR Wireless Router (Refurbished by NetGear)
- Power supply
- Installation Guide can be downloaded from the Netgear Site - HERE.
http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/wgr614.asp
- RJ-45 Ethernet patch cable

*Why buy Refurbished?

Mardoni

get your PC/Laptop hardwired into a LAN port on the router.

Start -> Run -> cmd
>ipconfig /release
>ipconfig /renew
>ipconfig /all

Take note of the Default Gateway IP address against your LAN connection.

Open your favourite browser
Navigate to: http:// probably http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1

Login and configure.
Defaults are probably something like:
admin | no password
admin | admin
admin | password
root    | admin
admin | root

Or google for the defaults for your router :)

HTH.

edit, btw. I wish I could get my NTL connection to somewhere around yours. Even with all the QoS stuff turned off I can only hit ~ 15mb/727 :/

You dont need a driver for a router, it only needs firmware, of which a version should already be installed.

All you need to do is plug it all in to your computer and the internet, then open a browser window to 192.168.0.1 (or 192.168.1.1) then supply the default username and password.

Its Jess trying to do it, Its not hardwired, thats the problem, it says page cant  be found, if I was there Id have hardwired it first.

thanks everybody.

Ive found it pretty much impossible to do the initial setup of a router via the wireless interface. I guess it should be possible but its never worked for me.

Beaker

hard reset the router, then look for the "NETTGEAR" SSID.  Connect to it, flip the wireless security to WPA-PSK. then reconnect.  I would sugest changing the default SSID while you are changing the Encryption.  After that Add in MAC Filtering if you like, and youll be ready to go.  We do them at work a lot, but we dont give a warranty to a wireless setup if its done using the wireless.

I forgot I read this.

Honest.

Please note: Netgear routers dont require any software or drivers to install, thats why there are no drivers to download on the website. The routers are configured using a web browser like Internet Explorer. Our video guides explain just how to connect up and install most of the Netgear routers we sell: Digidave video guides

Yup - Ive never managed to do it over wireless from a ton of Netgear systems and a BT home hub the other day.  Initial setup using a cable/usb is always easier.

Please dont say those words, the BT Home Hub is the bane of my existence.

Agreed, the wireless on them are terrible.

All netgear routers use a default IP of 192.168.0.1 unless they have been fiddeled with by the ISP.  I never use a setup disc with netgears.

Liam

Yep all Netgear routers by default have an IP of 192.168.0.1. Also i think most Netgear routers have a SSID (Wireless Router Name) of something like NETGEAR*Model Name* etc, mine originally was NETGEAR834G.

lol I went into it expecting the worst.  Really impressed with BT tho.  8 meg, hub is flawless and not connection dropped once (despite living in amongst a milllion wireless nets).  All it took was manually forcing a wireless channel instead of the default and been spot on for ~ 2months.

Really impressed by BT this time round tbh.

its just a speedtouch 780 with modified firmware, unfortunatly the wireless on it is utter gash.

Id do that. I got my Netgear wireless router off the bay that is E and its worked perfectly wired and wirelessly.

Hard reset with the small button on the back, youll need a pin or somthing to get to it.

Connect your compy to it with a network cable, it should automatically recognise the fact when you switch it on. Then go Http://192.168.0.1 in Internet explorer. It should ask you for the user name and password, these are often Admin and password. Set everything else up from there, a manual should be available from their website if Digidave hasnt included it.

I have just set up a Netgear printserver from him and it was easy as anything. Also using a Netgear ADSL modem/router.
