Ok so I left my camera on the bus. And lenses.
Its taken me 2 weeks to get over it. Lets not mention that in here.
So, I need a new camera. I see the D7000 is coming out. I also see everyone except me had a Canon.
So, my question to you the audience is, persuade me what camera to buy. A 60D? A 50D? Another D5000, splash out on a D7000, get a D90 (bit cheaper than the D7000 and should drop)
I have a Canon 500D, think its great, while in Iceland last week two of the other guys had 7Ds (Me want! Its a great camera!)
The other guy had an entry level Nikon, and also thought it was a very good camera, especially the fold out screen!
I think to be honest they are much of the same, Ill stick with canon, I like the new interface, I have Canon fit lenses which will be the main reason, and if I did it again would still go for canon, also handy if you know people with the same brand as you can borrow lenses.
I like the layout on Canon, but depends on what you are used to, but one thing the entry level Canon stock lens vs Nikon, Nikon wins, just seems to be a much better lens!

I take mock offense for comic effect at that comment!
I love my Nikon D70 its far more capable than I am at taking photos - and as cheap as it gets! (second hand).
Do you know anyone you might be borrowing lenses off? That would decide the Nikon/Canon decision for me.
I dont have any friends
Whats the budget for the new cam + lens?

Very cool, me want as well, the 50D will have to do for now though.

Ive also got an old Panasonic FZ-20 I still occasionally use, a no name x3 zoom compact and a Fujifilm Finepix Z35.
The Fuji cost me all of £40 from Tesco a couple of days ago, was on clearance.
Canon cameras are not better than Nikon ones, its a case of each having their own advantages. Nikon kit lenses definitely put Canon ones to shame. Unless you live close enough to someone to borrow their lenses then it hardly matters which manufacturer you decide on. If I was buying today and didnt have the lenses I might well opt for a Nikon.
If you have still got the Nikon lenses then it might be worth going for another Nikon. You might also have a look at the D3100. I would wait a few weeks and see what the reviews say but the D7000 looks really nice so far.
if someone held a gun to my head and said I had to pick a Canon or Nikon camera, Id take the Nikon every time.
Ill still keep my Pentax though, I like the control layout, the lens quality and the built in anti-shake.
